Non-Threaded Muzzle Break?

Hey All,

I did a search and found no results on the site. Did a google search and found limited results on shady looking websites.

My MP 15 is compliant to NY state, and doesn’t have a threaded barrel, rather it has a heavy barrel. In NY state it is legal to have a Muzzle Break but not a Flash Hider. I have been spending some time looking at the designs of muzzle breaks, and it doesn’t seem impossible to machine a break that will slip over the Heavy Barrel and clamp, or set screw onto the barrel. Do such breaks exist???

I beleive someone makes and adapter, but it is held on with set screws and has threads on it. Try Brownells, or move nextdoor to my gun friendly state and just get a threaded, non-NY compliant barrel.

The set screws don’t hold up usually. I tried that on a CA compliant barrel years ago prior to the Fed ban expiring in '04 (now CA is ok with threaded barrels, FH’s, etc) and after less than 100 rds the muzzle brake went sailing downrange. Didn’t hurt anything but it’s obvious you’ll need to countersink the barrel so the set screws actually go down into it a wee bit so they can grip properly…
