non-larue t1 mount?

not that i have anything against larue. in fact larue mounts are all i have ever used for aimpoints. i just want know what my options are. maybe try something different this time around. i am looking for something cantilever. so i can mount on the edge of the receiver but push the t1 forward a bit. i am looking at the knights armament mount and the gg&g. but i rarely hear anything good about either. apparently the Knights cant hold a zero according to some reports (surprising for knights). and the few things i have heard of gg&g are not impressive. here is a what i posted in another thread…

does any one have any experience with the gg&g mount? i have been looking into one but its lack of popularity leads me to believe it doesn’t do the best job when compared to other popular choices. between the QD, cantilever, and built in caps you would think you would see more of them around.

here is somebody elses pic…so people do actually use the gg&g.

does any body have a positive experience with either of the 2 fore mentioned mounts? something else non-larue?

If I were to pass on the LaRue, I’d probably go with the KAC mount

There aren’t any cantilever micro mounts on the market, at least not from reputable manufacturers. If you don’t want the LaRue, I would take a hard look at the ADM mount.

First, question do you really need a QD mount? Most people do not. So I would look at the DD mount.

One of the best QD mounts out there is ADM. So take a look at them.

thats what i was thinking as well. the gg&g looks interesting but i cant find a single positive testimonial. i also heard a few reports of the kac loosing zero and even coming loose. which is concerning for a good company like kac. has me a little stand offish on the kac mount. then again you never know if they were properly mounted by the individuals who report the problems.

I had a ggg mount. Liked the caps, but heavy as hell for what it was.

but it did hold a zero? stay tight? repeatable?

Does anyone have experience with this mount? The price is a little steep for me but I’m interested nonetheless.

My ADM’s are as solid as my LT660’s, and I do like the spacer system as far as modularity goes. Only drawback is the marginally heavier weight for a system that uses more aluminum and more screws to keep itself together.

QD on such a durable sight that is still functional when off isn’t that valuable to me, I only run QD mounts on my Aimpoints so that I can rotate zoom optics onto certain carbines, no other reason. If you don’t have the requirement, the DD mount is not only the cheapest, but the lightest. When Grant is recommending the (probably lowest profit margin mount) cheapest mount he sells, it’s because it’s a great unit.

The only GDI mounts I have firsthand experience with are the TA31RCO M4/A4 NSN versions, but they’re impressive mounts. The button doo-hickey seems like it could acquire fouling in really abusive field conditions (as does the ADM), so the ONLY reason I have any preference to the LT units when price is disregarded is just the parts count (lowest), but in those same conditions the DD mount again reigns supreme.

Realistically, the best values for a micro aimpoint and mount are the H-1/DD and H-1/ADM SOCOM respectively (from G&R).

from what i have heard of GDI, they are top notch. and for how much money they usually want for their stuff…they ought to be. big fans of GDI on other forums.

thanks for all the dd recommendations. i am tacking a strong look at the dd mount. i have never used a non-qd mount for an aimpoint. thought i never use the qd that much. its just a nice option.

I use a KAC, however I i have used Larue and ADM Micro mounts well and they are very well made.

Based on an experiences I had with a combination if rain, fog, heavy breathing, and 250 rds fired over a short time QD is a requirement for my optics. My T-1 fogged up externally so bad that the dot was no longer usable. That coupled with rain drops on the lens which again made the dot unusable soured me to fixed mounts. I was fortunate that I was able to remove it and go to my BUIS. Same thing was experienced by everyone in the class to include those with other Aimpoint models and a guy with Trijicon TR24 who was screwed because his fixed mount didn’t allow him to remove his scope.

Actually it did, for me at least. It was just annoying how it affected the balance for me.

I’ve have the KAC haven’t had any loss of zero.

i dont think there are any wide spread problems with the kac mount. i have read several threads where one or two people reported loss of zero and even coming loose. wanted to check up on it. if any one else is using the kac … please let me know how its going.

  1. I would always go with QD, if your sight cracks or fogs, you need to get it off NOW.

  2. Larues are proven

  3. Larues arent really that expensive in the grand scheme of things

  4. Larues hold zero.

Ok so why go with anything else? The try something new argument isnt valid.

I’ve used the GG&G mount. It works well, but is bulkier and more expensive than others. It does return-to-zero well, too. However, the front flip cap is not built into the mount, and only slips over the front objective of the Micro, and it easily comes loose. If you don’t tape or glue it on there, you WILL lose it sooner or later. The rear cap is built into the mount though. At nearly twice the price of a Larue or ADM mount, it seems pointless. And it’s an absolute co-witness (I prefer the lower 1/3 of Larue and ADM).

I don’t like mounts that flex the whole aluminum body of the mount to pinch onto the rail (DD micro mount). It just strikes me as a lesser design and built for manufacturing efficiency & cost savings. On the DD micro mount, the crossbolt heads have a tendency to strip (softer steel). You also must slide it onto the receiver from the front or rear, sans crossbolts, to install it. It doesn’t set down onto the top like other mounts. Since most handguards will block this ability in front of the upper receiver rail, you’re left with removing your rear sight to install/remove the DD mount by sliding it forward onto the rail. They may have changed this design recently, it’s been nearly two years since I’ve used one, so I don’t know if they’re still like this. They are cheaper though.

QD is worth it, in my experience. Knowing that you can remove it and keep your zero (most QD mounts will do it these days) is assuring. If for nothing else, it gets the optics out of the way during cleaning (I often use a parts washing bin and don’t want solvents near my optics). There are lots of other small reasons too, and for the approximately $30 cost difference, I don’t see much reason to limit myself to non-qd.

It seems a number of guys here don’t care for Mark Larue’s online antics, and those opinions may be valid, but Larue produces simple & incredibly durable mounts.

If you’re not going Larue and need quick detach. I’d go with adm.

thank you. that was some the exact feed back i was looking for. shame about the dd mount. it looks like i will be going with larue or adm as i have in the past.

I like the KAC mount.
