Non-chrome lined barrel break-in

I know “barrel break-in” get’s a lot of press, and can the questions can be annoying.

I’m aware that chome-lined barrels don’t need the tedious “shoot, clean, shoot, clean, shoot, clean…repeat” method, but what about non-chrome lined barrels?

Specifically, a Colt Match Target Lightweight 9mm barrel. I have this barrel on my new 9mm upper: http://www.e-gunparts.com/DisplayAd.asp?chrProductSKU=983670&chrSuperSKU=&MC=YJ , and was wondering if there is anything I need to do when taking it out for the first time.

Before shooting:

  1. Run a patch soaked in any bore cleaner, BreakFree or lube.
  2. Follow up with a couple of dry patches.
  3. Shoot the crap out of it.
  4. Clean and lubricate.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 as often as possible.

You’re not going to wear that barrel out.

If you can afford to shoot enough to wear it out,
then the cost of a new barrel will be the least of your worries.

Amen.

I do the same method of cleaning and shoot 5 round and clean… repeat a few times. Really don’t know if it makes a difference, but I rather do it and take care of my barrels in case it does have a affect.

That’s what I’ve done with all my rifles with chrome lined barrels. I didn’t know if there was a different suggested procedure with non-chrome lined.

Thanks for the info.

I dont even break in my match barrels with the cleaning procedures as I dont see it doing anything but wearing the barrel faster and being a major PIA.
