The history of gun control efforts in the United States is more than a tad convoluted and many M4C members might be very surprised to hear who originally espoused many of the sentiments being heard from 2A advocates today.
If you don’t think you have a lot in common with Malcolm X, Huey Newton, and Bobby Seale, than you don’t know your history. And if you think the GOP, Ronald Reagan, and the NRA always had your back with respect to gun rights, well, you’d be wrong again. [i]In the 1920s and ’30s, the NRA was at the forefront of legislative efforts to enact gun control. The organization’s president at the time was Karl T. Frederick, a Princeton- and Harvard-educated lawyer known as “the best shot in America”—a title he earned by winning three gold medals in pistol-shooting at the 1920 Summer Olympic Games. As a special consultant to the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws, Frederick helped draft the Uniform Firearms Act, a model of state-level gun-control legislation. (Since the turn of the century, lawyers and public officials had increasingly sought to standardize the patchwork of state laws. The new measure imposed more order—and, in most cases, far more restrictions.)
Frederick’s model law had three basic elements. The first required that no one carry a concealed handgun in public without a permit from the local police. A permit would be granted only to a “suitable” person with a “proper reason for carrying” a firearm. Second, the law required gun dealers to report to law enforcement every sale of a handgun, in essence creating a registry of small arms. Finally, the law imposed a two-day waiting period on handgun sales.

Gun control, like all topics which play out in the political arena, can make for some very strange bedfellows.
Thanks for the info Dave. The NRA and other guns rights groups need to form coalitions and try to educate the public. The Gun Grabbers we use all means at their disposal in order to “protect the children”.

Politics in the US has had an interesting evolution of stances and beliefs. The post Civil War era in the South was very Democrat and totalitarian in enacting rules against blacks. They very much believed in enacting laws to restrict the populace.
This Democrat love fest existed until recently, when a majority of legislatures in Southern states switched from Democrat rule to Republican, and people finally woke up to the realization the national Democrat party went from being comprised of Southern Blue Dog’s to Northern and West coast socialists.
One of the better sources on the subject.
I understand, historically, that gun laws were meant to contain undesirable populations.
Is this report accurate, does anyone watch the following video, and take exception to anything being presented? I want to be sure this is not only a politicized piece, but rather a more historically accurate compilation as well.

It’s quite accurate. Historically prohibition of almost everything is rooted in racism, xenophobia(be it nationality or religion,) or “red scare” type feelings(meaning different political ideas not necessarily communism.) Drugs, weapons, speech, you name it.

Not really. The true believers can’t/won’t be swayed. He would likely just use a different argument to make himself feel intellectually superior and that would make his opponents out to be people who like things that steal land and people. They will make things up to fit their world view if facts don’t play along.
