I’ve noticed, there’s no price spike this time around.
In late '08 and early '09, I saw Bushmasters change hands for $1400 and Colts for close to $2K. I watched C-prod 30 round mags sell for $30 each.
No panic this time. Why?
Gun control not on the agenda this time around?
Everybody fully stocked on stuff left over from '08?
Any ideas?
I personally stocked up last time. I have the max amount of mags I can realistically carry and enough ammo to refill them if needed. If SHTF I would hope not to be in an extended contact situation, as I have family to think about and hope to escape and evade more than fight.
Might be the huge mark-ups. I went to a local gun store to look at a spare lower, and they had a basic LMT which retails everywhere for $330. The LGS had it marked up to $550 for the plain-Jane lower. Their stripped lowers are going for $250 for an LAR. Ridiculous.
I am buying all of my stuff online since most honest places like BCM and G&R haven’t added an election markup to their inventory.
It seems the high quality components are in the same short supply as always and there’s more “tier 2” manufacturers and magazines than there was in '08… net, net, little has changed for the time being.

I think others have all stated the reasons elsewhere.
A lot of people did it the first time around, and really don’t have anything else to buy at this point.
Panic buying requires money, something a lot of folks don’t have anymore to go spend on extra mags/ammo/lowers
Manufacturers did a better job ramping up production to counter the demand. Doesn’t mean there still aren’t things that are hard to get, like quality BCGs, but that’s not too different than it’s been for the last four years.
I’m still seeing reports of huge purchases on magazines, but finding some in stock hasn’t been too difficult. I’ve noticed a lot of the more reasonably priced stripped lowers all ran out of stock within a week of the election, but I can still find them elsewhere.
A large factor with prices at a LGS is what they are paying to get it in theor store. In '08, some distributors jacked the prices because they could. Then in 2010, there was a huge slump in gun/related sales and the dealers remembered who had screwed them over. I think that sent a message as well.
This time around the manufacturers seemed to be more prepared than in '08. At SHOT, a lot of folks were already counted on the bolshevik to be re-elected and had bumped production.
Sales are definitely up though. More preparation this time.
Posted an add for Brownells mags (on here, a local MS. gun forum, and by word of mouth) 3 days or so before the election and sold 2 before B.O. got reelected.
2 days after the election I had already sold over 100. No exaggeration.
At the last gunshow I had a booth with the mags and sold a freaking ton of them.
It has slowed down quite a bit though.

Agreed. Most folks learned from the previous election. I stocked up on all thing related to my firearm needs then. This time around, I’ve been doubling down on ammo. It is a fact that many don’t have the funds to do so this time around, but luckily, ammo is still plentiful and relatively inexpensive vs preobama four years ago. I have been in the process of downsizing my collection to a more practical and efficient size. It helps with getting rid of excess, buying ammo and funding a future project should the need arise. It does appear that manufacturers across the board have been kicking production into high gear, in anticipation of this election, and are sitting high on the hog…
Can say that I was told by LGS that “his” price went up $150 per riffle from suppliers. “he” also slaps a $150 proffit to said riffles for shop profit. I did notice that Davidsons had moved over 900+ ARs from election wed-fri that week…“his” transfer fee went from $20 to $50 for no explained reason. Box of 5.56 Federal XM193 (20rds) up to $13.50.
Feel that the LGS is pulling the wool over eyes here. Watched a gentleman shell out $1540 for a M&P that had sat in the shop for a month that before ellection was at $850. LGS did however thruogh in a 2nd PMAG (out of wrapper and scuffed up into the deal)
I hope that this is just a small local case, I am in SWF with limited amount of shops.
There is virtually no chance of an AWB. Why would there be a run on rifles or mags??
I think the current economic situation has hurt a lot of people.
I will say this as somone who lives in CA.
The run on our 2A rights was felt, but way too many are hurting economically for it to be really felt. I will say however alot of people are clamoring and complaining about it. Unfortunately people jsut dont have cash to show it lol.

The high end stuff is difficult to find, as always but even more so. I didn’t need anything but did pick up another BCM lower and middy upper, why, good question. I’ve got enough mags to last my lifetime and then some. Ammo is the item that you can always use more of but justifying it is hard. If you have 2,000 you want 5,000, then 10,000, and so on down the road with no end in sight. If you think there was no run look at Noveske or BCM. Good bolt and carriers and hard to locate. Many optics are nowhere to be found. Immediately after the election mags were scarce for a few days as well from my normal suppliers.
panic buying started much earlier this year. like, june. compare that with oct/nov/dec '08.
all you have to do is look at the sales figures for companies like SWHC.
so-called modern sporting rifles were up like 90% YoY YTD.
SB429, they were trying to limit all AR’s to 10 round fixed magazines. They really wanted to elminate the ability to have a bullet button which pretty much made people either run featureless (like I do) or run a full blown 10 round fixed.
They = California State Legislature (namely, Senator Yee).
Remember, Randull … a run on your and my 2nd Amendment rights here in California is common. However, our friends outside of California are usually – and rightfully – unaware of the typical day-to-day asshole-ery here in California.
There was no national “run” on the 2nd Amendment.
While we havent seen as big of run on black rifles and high cap mags, sales are still through the roof. Ammunition is where the shortage seems to be at least in my area, you cannot find a box of fmj 5.56/223 anywhere in town and the same with bulk 22 lr.
Well duh, of course Kalifornia made a run at gun rights.
I was under the impression we were talking about the national level here…
