No barrel markings on Colt

So I just received this 6920 today (I’m an FFL) and there are no barrel markings. Anyone ever seen this before?

Anything under the handguards?

Not me.

I have a 6920 upper with no markings forward the FSB, however the usual Colt markings under the handguard area ARE present.

That’s odd. Never seen a Colt barrel that wasn’t marked.

I do have a factory LE901 who’s upper is not ‘C’ stamped (like every other Colt), so odd crap like that does happen from time to time.

Maybe they stopped marking their barrels as a cost cutting measure. Then again maybe the machine was broke down and that one was pushed through.

The 10.3" Colt barrel that I purchased from G&R did not have any markings on it either, other than the make date by the FSB.

All barrel markings are being shifted to under the handguards.

That’s random.

So there are, or aren’t, any markings under the handguards?

Interesting. Any reason as to why, like so that all barrels are marked or just because?

Initial thoughts with the OP was that things could have been a general screw up like the commander marked full length 1911 slide. IE, Shit happens. But, if Colt is moving their markings that would explain things pretty well.

Correct. We have been seeing this with all new production barrels from Colt.

I’m also curious why Colt would do this. It seems logical to me that they would at least want the caliber showing where it can be easily verified…and not hidden under some (potentially) difficult to remove handguard.

The only thing I can think of as reasonable would be to keep the barrel’s info there if it ever cut down… Like a 16in barrel cut down to 10.3 for example?

Nothing under the handguard except for a date near the FSP that says 04/26/15.

My thoughts were more as a standardization so that it was the same for both 16 inch, and shorter barrels.

Maybe they took the Stag approach and the barrel stamper guy was “on vacation” that day/week/month.

Its nothing new. Daniel Defense has been doing this for years. If its a 10.5" or if its a 20" barrel all can be marked in the same location.

What about on the 11.5 heavy barrels you’ve got? I thought I made out markings north of the FSB on the stock pic but wasn’t sure. Also what year are they from?

Nope. Under the HG (pic on our website is from a barrel made last year). Our barrels are current production.
