So i bought a colt LE6920 about five weeks ago. Now there is no ammo. And all the talk of banning this and that has really just turned me off to owning an ar 15 for me. I think id be happier with a bolt action. Think try and sale it and get something that i can own and buy ammo for. Maybe a single shot 30-06.
If you don’t want an AR, now is a great time to sell it.
That being said, the ammo situation will settle down, just you may not be able to order it off the internet.
Have patience. The ammo shortage was created by panic. I haven’t heard of anything in this proposed ban about ammo.
We always go thru this in panic buys. Give it 6 months for production to catch up and people will relax a little.
I try to keep about 10-12,000 rds on hand so that I can keep shooting while the craziness is going on.
Wish I did that. I have only around 1,000. And I am reluctant to rezero my new irons and red dot sight which got a new mount. But it has to be done.
Why a single shot? If you want a .30-06, why not a Garand? With the profit you’d likely make on your AR right now, you could probably buy two nice M1 Garands and have them set up to work with modern hunting ammo. Then, when the panic dies down, you can buy a new 6920 at regular price and still be up a gun or two. Am I wrong?
Hang in there OP. Ammo is out there you just have to look hard and pay a premium. I’d be looking for mags and damn well hang onto that 6920 or regret selling it down the road.
Laughtenburg has renewed calls for ban on Internet ammo sales. Yesterday’s USA TODAY headline article mentioned it as I recall.
You could buy a bayonet until you find ammo…

If you are going to sell it, wait a little longer until the final bill comes out. Just my opinion. As far as ammo is concerned, don’t pay something ridiculous for ammo, wait it out, things will calm down and manufacturers will catch up.
Well, sell it then. Make some profit and buy a nice 30-30.
Personally I myself am about to downsize my AR collection. I’ll take pictures and put things on gunbroker probably tonight or tomorrow.
Personally, I love the platform but I don’t use all the ones I have and if I don’t use them, why keep them?

I feel you on the iron sight in. Luckily enough I headed down to my LGS the day before panic struck, I bought a 420 can of LC M855 and a 500 box of LC M193. I only had about 300 rounds before that so I am by no mean sitting pretty but I feel I’ll be able to make due for a month or 3 if needed. I just added a Troy rear folding battle sight and an Aimpoint PRO. I went to the range on Thursday to sight in. I brought 80 rounds of M193. The Irons kinda killed me on time and ammo, plus my dumb ass was turning the FSP in the wrong direction. I also forgot my spotting scope and was using my archery binocs which did not help for shit (at 50 yards and the targets I was using it was nearly impossible to see my hit marks), so I had to run down range almost every 3 shots to see where I was at. I was pissed but only myself to blame. Finally I shot a 10 round group at center, 1.5 wide and moved on to the Aimpoint . By luck a old timer with much much more experience then I had showed up to collect 556 brass with only 10 minutes left to shoot. He pulled out his Bolt gun with a great scope. I made a deal with him, my brass for help sighting in. I shot, he looked, then he cranked the turrets on the AP, keeping me in the same shooting position. Sighting in like this with the AP on a LaRue LT-129 mount took all of 12 shots. 6 for the actual sight in and then I removed the AP and put it back on and shot another 6 just to be sure it held my zero, which it exceeded any expectations I had. I was amazed, first time ever shooting with a Red dot.
Sorry for my long ass story, I could have easily just said I feel your pain and kept it at that. Anyway yeah I was getting real pissed every shot was like a dollar being taken out of my pocket these days. Every round/shot counts right now to me and I’m sure to many others.
OP I would hold tight. This will blow over and you will be good to go…remember patience is a virtue. If it does not blow over well then you can sell it for more then twice it’s worth if needed, either way hang onto it IMO.
If you get a bolt action that has a detachable mag tht will be banned accordig to feinstein.
Your bolt action selection will be limited.

Serious post or not, it is difficult to watch this happen again and can be discouraging for someone just getting into the game. Not everyone who owns a gun today went through the AWB or the 08 election as a gun owner and not everyone has the ability to stock up ammo, mags and parts to weather the storm.
Best to just stay put and see what happens. Ammo will stabilize, parts will come back.
To go dark on this, if any legislation that passes doesn’t hamper ammo sales it should be good for ammo prices.
Fewer new ARs being sold (I think it’s safe to assume that neutered ARs would not be as popular as current models), along with the hoarders having a stash laid in equals less demand for 5.56.
Yeah I’m one of those people that just recently got into AR’s and handguns not even a year ago. I have a pretty nice stock of ammo for my handguns as I’ve had them longer 11 months, but I just picked up the AR in late August. I am pretty good about stocking up on shit but with time and funds. I refuse to panic buy and also gouge sell things of my own. Karma is a bitch, and I know I wrote above that the OP could hold off and sell it for even more then its worth now but if that time comes, gouge prices will be the norm. But I have faith and am trying not to sweat it, I’m doing all I can to prevent it.
