Yay or nay on these? Everything I’ve heard about them so far is from people who think ARs are “assault rifles.”
I don’t mean the cameras.

I don’t mean the cameras.
I have them on my hunting rifles, but that’s where they’ll stay.
I think Nikon makes a nice product and should step they’re game up for the AR world.
Thanks Jsop. I was just wondering if the M-223 is worth testing out.
I think the best balance for quality and cost savings is a Vortex PST.
As long as its in a good mount youll be good to go.
Thanks again, Jsop. What makes the Vortex a better option?
I think their reticule is far superior to the nikons being put out recently.
They make a lot of claims about their quality and will 100% back them up. No questions asked.
For the price I feel like there’s nothing that can touch it.
For a little more you can get a SWFA SS that is highly regarded as well.
I personally got a vortex because I wasn’t sure if a variable was the direction I wanted to go and it was just the right price.
No matter what kind of optic it is, if its not in a good mount its not worth a dime. Its like putting bicycle tires on a sports car.
Skys the limit with optics though. Some prices can almost get you a down payment on a house!
Theres a very good thread somewhere in the optics forum explaining a lot about them.
Id wait till after shot to see whats new. And all the people buying new will be selling their old stuff cheap.
Know which sites have them in stock?
They have them, google showed quite a few.
Again id wait 2 weeks till after shot. Im sure many nice optics will be up for sale.
The vortex isn’t the end all optic though. Id do some more research. What works for me may not work for you. Ill be selling mine in a couple weeks as well. The weight of a variable just inst worth it for me anymore.
I have the Nikon 1X4 M223 and it’s quite nice. I like it… Ron

Thanks Kokopelli, I was thinking about getting one of those in a nikoplex reticle.
I have it ($279) on my 6721 using the Burris AR-PEPR mount ($74). It has the point-blank reticule… The Burris mount is slick as well…Ron

I have a M-223 that for the most part, has worked out pretty well. I don’t put heavy use on it, but it worked great for 2 days in the rain at an Appleseed shoot. It held a good Zero, did not fog up, even being left out in the rain and mud. Now the flip up lense caps that come with it flat out suck, but for the $$, I would buy another…

Notice lack of rear cap…
I ditched the flip-ups as well. I use a Butler Creek Bikini cover. It suits my style of shooting for this rifle… Cheers… Ron
Good-
I think Nikon has really good glass for the money.
Bad-
I usually hate the reticles Nikon uses. Even when they do use a decent reticle, I usually do not like the turrets.
I really think there is the potential for them to be making really good, affordable gear, but for whatever reason, I don’t think they “get it” most of the time.
I like the point-blank reticule and the turrets as well, however they are more suited to target/plinking (my intended use) than tactical use. Very easy to use with positive 1/4 MOA clicks… Ron
That’s what made me unsure about getting one for testing since the Nikon site recommends them for hunting.
You can see what I mean by looking at my pics. Nice big easy to use turrets and focus adjustment, but no lock-downs… Not a problem for me, but I ain’t clearing buildings… That’s really the only reason I said what I did about that… Cheers… Ron
If Nikon wanted to “get with the program”, they could crank out something fantastic. I just don’t think they’re too interested in their sports optics division. Their pro SLR bodies and lenses show they’ve got the optics and ruggedness down. Those go through more abuse than a rifle scope and the optics are much more critical.
