Nighthawk Costa Recon and Costa Compact

I don’t know if there’s a thread about this already, and I tried going back a few pages to see, but I saw Nighthawk posted about their new Chris Costa signature series pistol.

The Costa Recon model looks like a GRP Recon with Dave Harrison style rear sight (I know the description says they’re John Jardine’s) and 10-8 grips. Don’t know what sets this pistol apart performance wise, but seems to have a lot of cosmetic changes.

Other than aesthetics and specific features provided on this series of pistols, I doubt there is any performance difference from their other pistols. In other words the Costa model should perform the same as a GRP Recon, Enforcer Recon, etc. It’s different in name only and the stylized look. The EVERLAST recoil system looks interesting but also gimmicky.

Not my style.

Looks like they used a SVI slide and added the ejection port flare.

I guess these days you are no one in the gun industry until you have a 1911 with your name on it. I am sure it is a great gun but … yawn.

great gun and $3500 gun aren’t necessarily the same though.

it is a nighthawk so im sure its g2g but i dont know if i can justify that price tag.

id try and find a LAV before a costa

Does it come with a beard?

No, but as you apply pressure to the trigger a speaker in the grip says"bust em".

Nice! :stuck_out_tongue:

Not that looks matter all that much but, damn that’s an ugly mutha!

I actually like how it looks. But NOT for $3500!!! With that being said, I’m never happy with the grips 1911’s come with, I always change them out as soon as I get the gun home.

Abraxas, you couldn’t be more correct.

For 3500, I’d be slinging my cash to Cylinder & Slide for one of their Trident model pistols. I love the Nighthawks I have, but I didn’t buy them new.

H

They could have made the Costa logo a bit larger. People might not be able to read it a 1/4 mile away.

Nothing against Costa at all just like things a bit more subdued and I don’t need someone elses name printed in giant white lettering on my guns. Even cold blue over the BCM logo on their BCG’s.

From a price standpoint it’s actually pretty good, considering the work that goes into each gun…

…that said I do think the logo is a bit “not to my likings” to put it nicely. Even on my Enforcer build I had them leave the ENFORCER off the slide. I think had these been engraved deeper, and then kept black it’d look better.

I even find the Vickers NHC pistols to be a little much, right now I like that if you find a 10-8 or something you know it’s a 10-8 without it being blared at you that IT’S A 10-8.

can’t see anything to justify the price.

A wilson CQB Elite is $3425. That’s the going rate for that level of semi-custom 1911’s, whether justified, or not.

Since I am a 1911 novice (at best) are there any higher-end 1911’s that pass the $3500 mark? And if so, what makes them so special at that point? Is it work done, or the smith’s name?

my grp recon I just got ,with the same trigger, night sights , magwell , ambi. safety, and x300 was oh $800 less

most customs (not semi-customs) cost more than $3,500. Most signature grade 1911s are over $5,000.

It’s not justified. Wilson Combat increased their prices drastically on their pistols a few months ago. I remember I was looking at a CQB earlier in 2011. At the time their baseline price was $2550 and now it’s $2865. Nighthawk Custom did the same thing but didn’t increase their prices quite as much. I’m glad I bought my Nighthawks when I did, because I sure as hell won’t be buying another one with these absurd price jumps.

I’m glad I’ve got mine too, the way the prices keep going up.my 10-8 was about 1500 cheaper, what a difference.
just to stay on topic ,I don’t find it ecstatically pleasing.
