Looking for experience and opinions on a 2.5-10 (x28 or x32) Nightforce with the Velocity Reticule. Initially it’s for a Noveske 16" Reece that is proving to be accurate enough for a quality optic. It might go on an SPR type later on.
Square range use - targets are steel plates, 6"-12" at 300M and 400M and a little bigger at 500M. With my 75gr reloads I’m currently getting consistent hits on the 12" gong at 400M using an older (and not so clear) ACOG TA01NSN. It seems to be working at 500M as well, but I’m really stretching the old ACOG at that distance. I’ve not tried anything longer as yet.
I’m want something that will work for precision shooting and yet be fast enough for 3-Gun. (3-G just for funzies, I no longer compete.)
I know the disadvantage is the Velocity reticule only works on 10X, but for precision type work a higher power is needed for 300 Yds and beyond, anyway.
Thanks - I saw that thread while I was trying to chase down some information on the Velocity reticle. Good thread, btw except for the usual dick head comments on TOS.
Due to my load velocity, a 75gr Hornady at 2,500 fps, I now “think” the NP-R2 might fit my needs a little better. At my altitude, the Velocity is, in theory, only off 2 MOA at 500 Yds, which is not as big a deal as most people think. I can get hits on the steel at 500 meters now using the ACOG by just going to the top edge - but it’s a pretty big (18") gong.
In theory (again), I should be able to get closer to POA=POI by using the MOA stadia lines on the NP-R2. Searches here as well as on TOS indicate a number of people think highly of this reticle. Now it’s just a matter of turning loose the coin, but I’m about there.
If the “Low” V reticle is setup for a 77 SMK at 2,750 fps, I wonder what the High V is calibrated for? To bad (for me) that they did not set the Low V a little more low.
