I was wondering what the level of illumination was on the Nightforce NXS 1-4 Optic was and how it would show up in various daylight conditions.
I’ve read multiple people say that the illumination is not enough to show up in daylight, but they don’t specify what kind of daylight. All daylight, or extreme bright light, etc.
I have nowhere local to see this optic, and would appreciate any descriptions, pictures, etc.

Shows up just fine & adequate in low to normal daylight.

Is that the Highest Brightness Setting you have it on?
Nope, too much blooming/flaring @ that setting.

I’ve got a 2.5-10x (uses same illumination as the 1-4x) and it DOES show up outdoors in low-light / early morning / overcast. The only time it washes out is in direct sunlight.
Anything bright enough to wash out the Nightforce reticles is light enough for the reticle to appear solidly against. Similarly, anything dark enough to loose the reticle on is dark enough to see the illumination. It’s perfectly fine unless you just have to have Aimpoint-type illumination.
I find the daylight illumination issue to be much ado about nothing where the NXS 1-4 is concerned. In all but the brightest daylight, the reticle is a clear and bright red, and when it does experience illumination washout in very bright conditions, the reticle transitions from a bright red to a crisp, pure black. That still leaves you with very high contrast aiming point (and an easy shot), so in real terms, it just isn’t much of a handicap.
I’ve been consistently surprised by the effectiveness of the FC-1 reticle, though I would concede that, when viewed against the backdrop of a traditional RDS, you don’t end up with an apples-to-apples comparison. Then again, the typical RDS can’t be dialed out to 4x, either. Like all variables, the NXS is a compromise, but to my mind, it is one that still manages to do all things pretty well.

I suck at reticule capturing…but I recently tried to capture an image for another friend through my x24 on 4x on a reallly sunny afternoon.
Skyrr’s point above is about spot on, and basically I would have tried to explain it similarly…and I will also add that the only folks complaining on this NF daytime illumination are people who are trying to use the illumination for faster target acquisitions which high powered glass w. illumination is not really designed for as it is for a 1x dot style illuminated optic
I have a 2.5-10 and it only shows the illumination in twilight or heavy heavy overcast. Its just black if the sun is out at all.

I would try and find another NF and view that illumnation but I think you have a problem of some sort…if you do not see anything at all than you either have a bad battery or a defective illumination unit…granted its not like staring at the sun bright, but you should see something faint at least.
I don’t think so. I think we have a different definition of what bright sun light is.

Perhaps…but you said you can only see it in twilight and heavy overcast conditions only…and on both my NF’s it would take a mid day summertime sunny day to completely black me out.
Yep that is what I have said and I own two Nightforce scopes. A NSX 5.5-22 x56 and a 2.5-10 compact. Neither is as bright as you are claiming. Nor have I seen any at a three gun bright enough to see unless it was over cast or twilight.

Look at the amt. of sunlight in the bottom right…so much it overwhelms the green in the leaves…but both do not matter because both the bottom right and top left parts of the image are several yds. in front of me just like everything else in the captured image. I am standing outside in my driveway with little to no shade around my position.
In my experience, the illumination is not daylight visible. I had the 1-4, and while it’s an excellent optic, it didn’t fill my needs for illumination.
I’ve only found four daylight visibles:
K-Dot, Short Dot, Z6i, TR24
That has been my experience as well. But I have not been lucky enough to try a short dot.

I wish I could say I owned one. I have had a fair amount of trigger time with one belonging to a friend. It and the Z6i are on my ever growing list.
