A 1.93 or even 2.04 height optic mount are preferable for passive aiming with MNVD over the dominant eye.
I find this quite odd. I have a set of 31 MODC with Photonis tubes and I have manual gain on mine. I am also in Canada. Seems odd they wouldn’t offer that for the US market.
It’s got nothing to do with Canada but the platform.
I’m not following?? The body/housing itself?
A lot of the QSCI (or whatever) units aren’t really sold/wanted much in the U.S.
I understand in Canada that’s likely your best option.
Ah, so it’s a vendor/NVD housing limitation, got it. Sadly in Canada it is about the only option. Prices are two to three times that of the US.![]()
Yes I’ve heard prices suck in Canada.
How do I tell the difference between an artifact and trash on the lens?
Do artifacts appear after the tube has been used for a little while?
I finally got my mount and counter weight and decided to go a little night stroll. I noticed a dot and a line that I have never seen before in the tube.
Not sure if I have some trash on the lens that is stuck and I need to clean it better than just with an optic pen cleaner or maybe I have developed an artifact.
Of course I don’t want to ruin my new toy until I have attended a full shooting class with it.
I am starting to see why a dovetail mount is preferred.
My rhino mount doesn’t like to stay stay centered where I put it so the tube want to move just enough where I am looking at a slight angle. Madding.
I can almost tell where people have purchased NV from when they use the term “artifact.” Few places use that term.
If you mean a blemish, it would have had that at the onset. As a general rule blems don’t happen after the fact. When it appears to happen after the fact- i.e, after some use, it’s likely some “debris in field”- technical term for trash in your lens. I would email whoever you bought it from with a pic and tell them you suspect it’s debris in field. There was a thread recently where I walked a poster here through how to clean his lens on a used unit he bought from someone. It goes through the whole process and you can see “before and after” pics to see the benefit as well.
A pic against a white wall would help if you want to post one. Just don’t be "that guy’ and use your IR illuminator for the pic- bouncing IR off a wall back into your tube isn’t very smart, yet you see tons of people posting pics of walls with the IR indicator light clearly showing on… Big risk to burning your tube from the IR.
Dovetail mounts are nice, especially the Noisefighters ones. A properly setup and adjusted military J arm will work as well.
Here’s the link to the thread I mentioned above regarding cleaning a unit-

Bumping this thread again.
I need some ear pro for my Ops Core Helmet.
What are the good options out there?
Can you provide more details?
Do you have muffs and just need adapters? Do you just need the ear-pro or do you need comms built in?
Also what is your intended use, fun or work?
Unity makes an adapter kit.

It was suggested to me, and I was able to get it to work, that you remove the foam padding across the middle of the helmet so that I could fit my Impact Sport in under the helmet. I have a team Wendy bump, and it was pretty easy as that whole section is one piece of 3 connected pads that I can just velcro in and out pretty easily.
It seems to be more common to have helmet ear-pro and comms all tied together. I have seen on here it being suggested that you should keep them separate so that if you ever do or need to remove your helmet you are not losing your comms too. Think this depends a lot on your application and usage.

The turnkey solution is AMPs. But they are expensive.
AMPs aren’t cheap and recently Ops Core/Gentex raised prices yet again.
You can sometimes find Comtac IIIs for under $400. That with the Arc kit will still be way under an AMP.
Do you need comms?
What’s your budget?
Good point, easy to assume everyone “needs” comms but he may not.
I’ve seen people’s pics of Howard Leights on modified ARC adapters. Could do that on the (relatively) cheap. I’ve had good luck with the Howard Leights over the years, especially when you add the gel cups.
I guess I should have been a little more verbose when I asked the question.
I was at a NVG class and I had a couple of recommendations but I have lost my notes.
I am looking for ear pro that interfaces with the rails of the Ops Core helmet.
No wearing ear pro straps under the helmet.
Primary purpose is to be used in training and (mostly) in conjunction with my NVG and will not interfere with my cheek weld.
Do I need comms?
At this point I am thinking no but I would like to have the option.
My sweet spot would be under $600. I can afford a lot more but I am looking for a good quality set.
Like I do not need the version that comes with Bluetooth. It would be nice but don’t really need that.
Trying to get a feel for what is on the market before I just run out and willy-nilly buy something.
Thanks in advance for info.
Lesson learned today:
Zeroing vis laser during the day is not as easy as I thought it would be…
Was even a slightly overcast day.

That’s why God made dusk and dawn.
You speak the truth, I had thought for half a second that maybe I didn’t need my Magpul PRO flip ups for BUIS having the vis laser… I see I was very wrong.
The aimpoint pro is now sitting too high to see them through the optic now that I have it on a riser, but it’s on a qd mount and could be taken off if needed.
