I remember seeing pictures of these things being used in Afrika in an SOF magazine(s) about 24 years ago.
Really cool story! I imagine as more stuff from the Cold War is declassified we will hear about a variety of such things.
As a side note, reading the articles description of the Hind always makes me think about the Sikorsky S-67 Blackhawk. I would love to have seen it get fielded by DoD. It was an attack helo that could carry 15 troops and had the maneuverability of an Apache.
