Night raids in Afghanistan

Basically it says that we’ll stop raiding terrorists at night because people don’t like it.

WTF? The argument is that it’s “socially irritating” to enter somebody’s house at night, so it’s ok to do it during the day?

And another thing : ““We’re not going to be in a position to stop all that activity,” he said but suggested more operations could be carried out during the day in less dangerous areas.”
Granted there are areas with a lesser Taliban presence, but hitting a house during the day and getting shot by homeboy and his AK will suck just as bad in a “less dangerous area” as it would hitting them at night. This doesn’t even account for the tactical advantage we lose by hitting them during the day.

And as for the kid that grabbed a soldiers weapon and was killed, well what do you expect dumbass? If you go grab a cops gun during a raid you better believe you’ll get shot, or at least beat down. 15 years old makes you a military age male in our book, and if a military age male, hell anybody grabs your weapon it is well within the ROE’s to kill his ass dead.

There are other ways to create better relations with the locals that don’t put our boys at risk. This is just a lazy attempt at appeasment instead of taking a step back and looking at the bigger issue and taking steps to solve the underlying problems.

Yeah no more night raids, just like no more shooting artillery:rolleyes:.

Is that the sarcasm smiley?

I had no idea AQ and the Taliban has agreed to start fighting a “Gentleman’s War”. When the hell did this happen?

If that’s the case then I need to volunteer for deployment to that region. I think it would be awesome to have a 9-to-5 war and scheduled combat engagements!!

My gut feeling is that this applies to the mainstream units only.

Honestly now, do you really believe everything you read in the paper and what the military says? No need to go ballistic on every news blurb that comes out…

No, we’ll issue body armor to them.

John Kerry said in 2005-
“And there is no reason, Bob, that young American soldiers need to be going into the homes of Iraqis in the dead of night, terrorizing kids and children, you know, women, breaking sort of the customs of the–of–the historical customs, religious customs.”

from Face the Nation on 05DEC2005.

I may sometimes come off as a bleeding heart liberal (which I am not, I have liberal leanings, and I have conservative leanings), but in warfare you have to be as brutal as your enemy. No cuts, no wait 'till he shoots (unless you need to keep under cover for tactical reasons).

You Fuck 'em up, then dictate the terms.
