Nifty guide to case headstamp codes

I was going through a pile 'o brass last night, came across some headstamps I wasn’t familiar with, ran across this interesting database.

Apologies if it’s a dupe.

I also use the older “Defense Intelligence Agency” handbook as well which has some rudimentary pics of the actual headstamps. Been a pretty good resource and it can be found on the net.

Quite nifty indeed, thanks for sharing.

I had some 8mm Mauser ammo stamped “UXA 44”. It’s brass cased with a tombac jacketed projectile, Berdan primed with staked primers.

It was advertised as WWII Czech ammo, but I’ve read it was made in Vlasim by S&B post war. This seems plausible due to the relative rarity of brass cased ammo in German service by that period in the war, having been replaced by lacquered steel.

I’ll see if I can find some and take some pics…

Here are some .223 cases I haven’t seen (or paid attention to) before:

ATI 09 (Am-tech International?)

G.F.L. 223 REM (Fiocchi)

IMG (on the list as Guatemalan)

RORG (Radway Green UK)

TZZ 11 99 (this is an IMI headstamp)

LC, PPU, IMI and the ever-annoying and ubiquitous FC 223 make up the bulk of the range pickups.

Celebrate diversity.

This is the Big Daddy of them all:

Click on ‘fuego central’ (centerfire) on the left hand side and go to town. TONS of calibers, and loads of examples of all types. Yes it’s in Spanish, but not difficult Spanish.

Enjoy,
Pat

gracias

De nada, compadre!

I use that site quite a bit to i.d. the more obscure headstamps on ammo I’ve bought for my WWI-WWII era rifles. As you can see, it’s pretty damn detailed, even with more recent and contemporary calibers.

Best,
Pat
