Nice write up in G & A on AZ 1200 new Colts

Just landed in my e-mail in-box. The article is nominally about the states new patrol rifles all being equipped with iron sights, but there’s a lot of good info here backing up the reality that’s taught here on M4C. I thought the group might enjoy a little light reading.

Friggin AWESOME!!!

That article is so dialed in it’s freaky!!! Lower maintenance for COLT guns? Gold Dots… A little slower, but better for barrier???

Damn!!! Go DPS!!!

If only all LE agencies put that kind of fore-thought into equipping their agents/officers.

I’d gladly shell out some personal $$$ for an optic of my choosing.

The Sheriff’s Office is the same way. Of course… you buy all your guns… including your Duty Pistol.

I was shocked to find out they allow RDS sights… Not because they’re inherently bad… but It’s hard for some guys to grasp the idea of a decent sight in a decent mount.

To me, it’s just easier to say IRONS only. We’re not going to waste time figuring out every possible goofed up mount, loose sight, etc… qual on irons and shut up.

It is definetely easier, but then you short change agents/officers who actually know their stuff when it comes to operating a carbine with a decent optic. Unfortunately, unions tend to frown on people that want to seperate the “wheat from the chaff”.

Unless you make out a laundry list of approved gear, guys who just want to “pimp their gun” will show up with some chinese RDS in a UTG mount and figure they are good to go.

I’ve seen agents try to “upgrade” from KAC handguards on our M4A1s to some drop in, “free float” abomination made from korean pot metal.

It’s like children sometimes.

I was kind of hoping that they would have gone with Spike’s. They’re almost the same.

Oh dear. It seems the hack who had been conducting DOS attacks on this board has now seized control of Iraqgunz’ account.

I remember when my Dad was with DPS… they tried to go all Colt back then, but Colt was stroking them on the package deal.

I forget what they ended up doing. I had him buy a Colt on letterhead… (this was during the Assault Weapons Ban)

And besides, more people are afraid of spiders than horses. :jester:

That is a pretty sick article though, makes you think that some politicians are doing things right somewhere.

And panthers are more frightening than both!

The article mentions the dept. “training guru” who put the package together. So there weren’t any “politicians” involved to screw up the works.

The article states that optics must be 1.5x or lower but that they must also co-witness with irons.

Will 1.5x optics such as the compact ACOGs co-witness with irons?

I agree, it’s nice to see a dept. that gets it.

Nice to hear that somone there gets it.

One odd part…

Rifles must be in iron-sight mode at all times; optics can be brought into the fight once the officer deems it prudent.
I find it prudent, always.

Goddamn, I can’t believe read through that giant piece of shit article. I guess any dumbass can go write for G&A.

The rifle’s 1913 rail was wearing an attachable “suitcase handle” and had an old-timey triangle front sight. “Wow. Iron sights. I haven’t seen those on an AR in a while.”

Suitcase handle? Jesus fucking Christ. I’m surprised he didn’t write about the “high capacity banana clips” AR15s use. Also, what ARs has he seen without iron sights? Is there a shortage of iron sights out there since he hasn’t seen them in a while? Is he just hanging out with people who remove their iron sights?

As he departed he said authoritatively, “Optics are worthless, anyway.”

This is from one of the officers. Someone call the DOD. We need to tell them optics are worthless.

Now that Pleistocene A1s have been fazed out

facepalm I don’t even…

Rifles must be in iron-sight mode at all times; optics can be brought into the fight once the officer deems it prudent.

Really? Is that the AZ Highway Patrol’s official policy on optics? If so, thats completely ass backwards. I wouldn’t doubt it if the writer misunderstood something.

We have a gun locker with a bunch of Bushmaster patrolmen carbines, is that close?

I’ve carried my own personally owned carbine since way before they were cool in LE.

At least one place is finally realizing that the original purchase price is only a small portion of the package.

I think they mean that none of those dog shit flip ups like TROY are acceptable. I read into that… the IRONS are fixed and if you have a sight like a Eoturd, you can turn that on when you need to.

The policy sounds solid, even thought the auther worded it a little weird.

Interesting stuff. Leave it to Gunz to cut right through the BS.

Good for DPS. It seems the agencies around here are getting their shit together. Here in Phx they have turned our patrol rifle program into some decent training actually and you need to be proficient to pass. the last class failed 1/3 of the officers that were selected to go. We have mandatory training/qual 4 times a year too.

Florida State Highway Patrol uses them so they must be good.
