So I took my NHC Falcon Recon out today. Intent was to run 500 rounds through it to trust it more as my EDC. I bought 5 Tripp Cobra mags as well. Had great luck with them in the past, and I tried to take the mags being an issue out of the equation as much as possible. I had 5 FTF in the first 120 rounds I ran through it. 3 with fmj, 2 with jhp ammo. 2 with Tripp mags, 2 with NH mags, and one with a 47d. I was so disappointed I left. I have about 700 rounds dont the tube total.
I know I can send this to NHC and let them tinker with it, but it is hard for me to trust a firearm after having issues. I am really trying to have complete confidence in this gun, but to me, reliability is king. I absolutely love everything about 1911s, the ergos, feel, accuracy, amazing triggers, American legacy ect. But I cannot justify having a $3k+ handgun that I cannot trust 100%. I am thinking of parting ways with it and picking up a couple HK45s and spend the rest on mags/ammo. I know I will be able to shoot the 1911 more accurately with quicker follow up shots, but I have to be completely confident it will go bang everytime.
I am not a rich man. I had to sell some guns and ammo and work some OT to get this NHC. With a growing family I had to sell some of the guns in the same which left me only with guns that have some sort of practical purpose. No more range only toys. Should I let NHC work on it or cut my loses and go HK?
Yeah, NHC are pretty much low end on 1911 side of things… You should get rid of it Quick… I’ll PM you my shipping info…
#1) Me To HELP You, You need to have a Firm Grip/Hold… No LIMP Wristing it here… I’m willing to beat most new shooters to the 1911
have most of their problems FTF… FTE because of it…
#2) You mention alot of things you enjoy/like about 1911s. So I’d say, Do as the others have already suggested, let NH make it right.
#3) Please keep us posted as to what you do/what becomes of this…?
The grip isn’t an issue. Im no expert, but I’ve been shooting 1911s for a while. Ammo used was federal ae, and pmc bronze ball And federal hst, and winchester ranger.
I called NHC when I got home. They sent me a shipping label. I really hope they can make this gun run like a raped ape, because I love everything else about it. Hopefully I can give it to my son one day. If they mess with it, send it back, and I still have some issues she will have to go…
First, Nighthawk only warrants work when utilizing their own magazines. This was the policy they had in place as of 2 years ago, which is the last time I had to send them my Talon II to have an ejector replaced. They will not guaranteed function with Tripp or Wilson combat magazines. Perhaps this policy has changed, but I would check with them.
Could you describe in better detail the FTF? Did the gun lock up right as the round was being stripped off the magazine or did it seize up with the round mostly in the chamber? My Wilson X-tac would not go completely into battery for the first 500 rounds on occasion because the fit between the barrel’s locking lugs and the slide was incredibly tight. Copious amounts of lubrication and a 500 round break in period solved the problem. On the other hand, I had no FTFs with my Talon II, but I did copiously apply a large quantitiy of Slip 2000 on the barrel and bushing because the fit was so tight, I would have to use a rubber mallet to disassemble the gun for the first 1000 rounds.
Last, are you using a standard recoil spring or the Everlast recoil spring system? Not that it should matter. Whatever the problem is, make sure the gun is lubed to hell for the first 1000 rounds.
