Would You Have Built…By Who…And WHY!
I Havent Shot A Automatic Weapon Since 1969…But Thinking About Building One…

It depends on your use.

Varmits,Hunting, Self Defence

Since your looking at every end of the spectrum and in between, I suggest you look at the AR PICS THREAD for ideas and start to narrow down what you want…

Thanxs

that is exactly what i have been doing looking the AR pic thread for cool ideas of things I would have not thought of. As I mentioned on other threads I hope to be getting my first AR at the turn of the year or so. In the meen time I am doing research & talking to different people to see what they like & why. I did quite a bit of research before I settled on my first handgun. Obviously at some pont cost has to come into play for most of us so while my pistol is the the most awesome weapon it is wanted I wanted & could afford at the time.

I’m Getting Ready To Retire…
And IWant The Best!

Wanting the “BEST” is what we all seek, but what is BEST can be entirely different things depending on PURPOSE…

A firearm that is BEST for those rascally varmints would be a BAD choice for self-defense, and both would not be BEST for hunting larger game. So you see, you need SEVERAL AR’s to ensure all your needs are covered…

It’s called BRD! Black Rifle Disease…

So, there is no way to answer you without FOCUS on PURPOSE…

Guess This Old Dog Is Gonna Have To Learn Some New Tricks!

OP are you for real or are you here waisting time?

i’m real, Hope I’m Not Wasting ANYONES Time!

Again, what are you trying to do?

Why do you want this rifle?

What do you want to do with it?

Well, First I Thank Those Who Answered!!
I Will Build A .308.
I’ve Got A Ruger P-89 And A Colt King Cobra For Home Protection.
I Think A .308 Would Suit My Needs For Hunting And Distance Shooting.
What Are Some Of The Down Sides Of The FN-Fal vs the AR 10 ?

If I was getting ready to retire, wanted the best .308 semi-auto rifle, and had the money to spend, I would buy a Knight’s Armament SR-25. It will be everything you ever wanted in a .308.

I waffled around for a few years and ended up buying other toys, but I too want “the best” AR-15 I can get.

This means an A2 that is as close to mil-spec as possible for me.

If I wanted a carbine or short-distance weapon I would get a PS90, not an AR. (jmho, but 50 rounds and UBER reliability and less muzzle blast is enough to tip the scale).

If I wanted an 800 yard varmint/hunting/target shooter I would get a Weatherby SVM or Remington 700PSS in .308.

I don’t. I want an AR15 and to ME that means an AR15, not one of it’s derivatives designed other than Stoner originally designed it as after it was tested/updated (read: thicker barrel, A2 flash, ect.). Are these derivatives “bad”? No, just not what I want.

People on here LOVE! the Colt 6920. It just doesn’t do it for me. Why? IT ISN’T THE STYLE OF WEAPON I WANT.

You need to narrow down what you what. Try this:

“I want to compete in Service type matches”
“I want the most reliable carbine to protect my loved ones, self, and home”
“I want the most accurate rifle I can get to kill crows, chucks, and other vermin”
“I want a rifle that will reach out and anchor a deer”
“I want a reliable open-sight/scoped plinker to shoot at cans”

Pick which phrase best suits you, or tell us what DOES suit you. For me, my wants are based on: Needs, Aesthetic appeal to me, and a certain part of me that enjoys collecting. What drives your purpose?

Best car: Is it a H1 Hummer or a Porche 997?

answer: Are you in Iraq or on the autobahn?

I saw just that rifle the other day, I think it was going for something like 2200 or 3200. I don’t recall. The SR-25 got a black eye from the DPMS .308 from what I hear at the local gun-shop (Clark’s Guns). Seems that the DPMS was outshooting other rifles way out of it’s league $$-wise, the Stoner included. This IS gunshop hear-say but I consider the man I heard it from and the gun shop to be more reliable than most.

So, you want THE BEST! in a .308 semi-auto platform and money is not an issue? The PSG-1 would put you in some really rare air, although I think that technically a well-made AR could best it.

I would buy an AR-10T from Armalite and then properly stake everything, send the upper off to Krieger, buy a US optic scope, upgrade the buttstock with one that would allow a good cheek-weld, have the trigger replaced with a JP or something, and call it a day. IF I was after the most precise long-range AR in .308 I could get.

I am sure you will get a million opinions on it though.

Thanks For The Reply’s !!!
