Hello, I’m 18 years old and wish to build an LWRC 6.8mm SBR. can i start an NFA trust with my dad and register it with him? Also would it be better to just go with a 14.5 inch barrel with a permanently attached flash hider? any help would be appreciated, thanks.

No answer on the trust question, however 6.8 performs very well out of a short bbl, so why do an SBR with a pinned FH? Kinda defeats the purpose. I think you’ll do fine with the stock barrel that comes on your weapon. Assuming it’s the PSD…
You can start an NFA trust by yourself, your dad or whomever. My opinion, start your own trust, add your dad as an officer. You’re still young and in the future you may want to add your spouse or any other additions to your family as officers or beneficiaries of the trust. You and your dad can certainly add and remove whomever you want if you decide to create a trust together, but it maybe easier if its just you managing the trust with your dad overseeing the process with you. Which ever route, please keep your “buddies” out of your trust and keep it in the family. My $.02
I guess this will depend on what you want to accomplish with your rifle. Will you be doing IDPA or any competitive shooting? Also, is 14.5" the length your going for on the build or do you plan on swapping to shorter lengths later? If you go NFA, you can go 14.5" down to 11.5" back up to 18" or down again to 10.5"…but this wont apply with a non-nfa registered lower.
The “what would be better” part of the question depends on what “better” means to you…
@ irishluck73: I’m trying to get into swat, but I’m not sure what the best path would be. I’m trying to decide between a 10.5 inch, and a 14.5 inch with pinned fh. it will be an all purpose weapon, 0 - 300 yards. Also what is the age to start an NFA trust?
Good luck on your quest to join SWAT. If you want to reach out to 300 yards I would steer away from the 10.5" barrel. You’ll be losing alot of velocity & accuracy and the longer barrel will help you reach those distances.
Even with the 6.8? Ive seen guys hit out to 500 yards with a 10.5 inch 5.56 LWRC. I would think the 6.8 would be able to handle 300 yards.
As far as I know YOU cannot start the trust because you are 18 and I believe that the minimum age is 21. As for whether or not you can be listed as a trustee, not sure either.
You have to be 21 to own a NFA item. Having your father register it for you, he would always have to be present when using said NFA items on the trust.

You will need a little TOJ before you get into swat if you know what that means…
i don’t know what TOJ is, but i do know ill probably have to be a police officer for at least 3-5 years.
