Hello all! Need some help deciding what to do with one of my uppers.
Several years ago I bought my first AR, and ended up with a factory LMT upper, 14.5 barrel, carbine gas. I had the flash hider pinned(welded and blended with FH) locally, a YHM, and the guy did a great job on blending it so it looks good. The gun evolved a little , and is now set up with a Rainier Evo rail (factory bbl nut), TLR-1s, and Aimpoint PRO, with MBUS sights.
I have been getting into the NFA side of things lately, and want to have as many of my guns set up for suppressor as reasonably possible. With the pinned flash hider, this upper is not getting shot much, despite it being set up as my HD rifle (another reason I want it suppressor ready).
At this point I am considering a few options:
- Sell upper, get something else.
- Swap barrels, sell LMT 14.5 with pinned FH and chopped sight/gas block.
- Send to shop to have pinned FH removed, hope there is no damage to threads, and then use as/is
- Send to shop and have barrel chopped to 10.5", threaded, and swap out rail, and have my shortest 5.56 upper.
At this time I have a couple other 16" 5.56 guns, as well as a 12.5 Kino, and a 10.5 .300blk. Also have had a Colt 6933 (11.5" SBR) on order at DSG since November, dont know when that will come in.
I had been considering a 10.5" Noveske Shorty Basic upper as well.
I am leaning toward number 4, sending it to ADCO, letting them do the chop/thread, and potentially open the gas port if needed (need some suggestions there). What are your thoughts?
Thanks!
