James Reeves visits FN to get hands-on with the all-new second generation FN SCAR 16S/17S, launching at SHOT Show 2026. In this exclusive interview, FN’s Senior Product Manager breaks down every major upgrade to the legendary SCAR platform, including the new two-piece buffered bolt carrier with hydraulic recoil system, true ambidextrous bolt catch and release, enclosed gas system, M-LOK forearm, improved triggers, AR-15 grip compatibility, updated stock options, and backward compatibility with legacy SCAR rifles. The Mk II keeps the iconic SCAR DNA while integrating over a decade of military and end-user feedback, all at a price point comparable to the original. This is the most comprehensive look yet at the next generation of one of the most famous modern battle rifles.
I’m here to just say “Thanks” for giving a description of the video, making it about guns, and even embedding it in the post. A true gentleman.
But yeah, I think this looks cool. Particularly interesting to me is the Kynshot partnership for the buffer. I’d often read concerns (not experiences) about durability for their AR buffers. OEM’d in a SCAR…that would go a long way to establish things.
The ability to drop most new parts right into a legacy model is also very cool.
