I was in the market for an Eotech in 512 or 552 but found that the models that I have found seems to have a new mount. Instead of the full rail that extends almost to the end of the optic now goes pretty much to the end of the hood instead. Does anyone know why this has changed or if they still make the full length mount? Hopefully the pics can help describe what im talking about.
My AA battery EOTechs are the older style, but I can’t imagine the change does anything other than save weight. The full length rail doesn’t really seem to serve a purpose since the actual clamping surface is only about 1-1.25".
I would not be afraid of the newer style.
Im kind of partial to the older look with the solid full mount just for cosmetic reasons. I wonder why they havent posted any info on the mount change.
I remember something like they changed it to give a little more clearance for people using regular hand guards.
I can understand that I guess. I just wonder why they havent really said anything about it. I bought a 512 a few months back but sold it because it had the newer mount and it just didnt quite look right on my gun and I sold it shortly afterwards.
This is what I’ve read. I like the older ones better that aren’t elevated looking. However the EXPS are becoming my new favorite.
Yeah they were updated to fit over the standard delta ring. I love EOTech, but will only ever buy their XPS/EXPS from now on.
Certainly, looks are extremely important:rolleyes:, but did the new mount interfere with the lock-up, accuracy, or return-to-zero?
Exactly, it lets you move the sight further forward on the upper receiver letting the battery compartment clear the stock handguards on many AR15’s, and keeping the sight level. It also gives you more room to operate the controls, especially if you are running backup sights and/or a magnifier, as you can move the sight forward on the receiver without throwing it out of adjustment.
