Just want to say that the information i have acquired on this forum has been priceless…i have always owned hunting rifles but knew nothing about m4s. did a few days of research and decided to settle on a spikes complete lower and a BCM 16 in carbine/midlength…dont
know yet which upper im going to order.
right now the plan is to go with magpul foregrip and back up rear sight until i can decide on optics.
maybe its just me not knowing what im doing but it has been hard tracking down a spikes complete lower…i called the company direct today and the guys there were great…said they were backed up for a while. i explained the situation that i was leaving out of state for work for the next 9-10 months and wanted to go ahead and get one so i could build out of state…they searched the shop and found some extras that had been made and not filed in an order…now thats good customer service…should be in at the end of the week.
but thanks to all here on the forum and im glad to be a part of this community.
midlength is what i want…since i dont have much experience, i wonder if i will even be able to tell the difference in the carbine length and midlength. wonder if its worth the extra $ for a first time ar owner
Get what you want… buy once, cry once. There are many reasons to get a midlength over a carbine length gas system, especially on a 16". But the best one is the longer handguard length so you can get your hand farther out on the handguard. That was what first interested me in midlengths.
I ordered a Blemished BCM Lower and a 16 midlength upper from grant on Monday after much thinking and calculating. Best choice I made, with the extra money from ordering the blemished lower I put to getting a sling and other small things.
Check out the options for lowers and uppers from grant, can’t beat the price or the customizing that you can do.
im looking at the bcm uppers…i was confused thinking the midlength was more expensive than the carbine…but i see that they are the same if they both have standard barrels.
i understand that the bfh barrels are higher quality…can anybody give me the advantages of bfh barrels? i assume they are longer lasting thru more rounds but id like to have an idea of how much more are you gonna get out of a bfh barrel?
I did the BFH on my upper, for the price it was worth it to me, being my first AR and since I probably wont buy another for a little while, might as well go with a better barrel that will withstand the use and thousands of rounds that I plan on putting it through.
I don’t know a whole lot about the BFH to give you good solid advice, so hopefully someone else will chime in here.
If you’re going to be running optics then choose which ever one you are most comfortable with but if you will be going with irons then pick the mid-length. You have a longer sight radius with the mid-length which is crucial for accuracy (think AK vs AR sight radii).
thanks…thats all the information i need…i think being my first rifle and for what i have in mind for use, im just gonna go with the bcm standard middy light weight! cant wait to put my order in…thanks for the help guys!
