Ok well im new here so… Im not exactly new to firing ARs but im am new to owning one. I recently picked up an AR (bushmaster xm15-e2s) for what I think was a good price. Rifle w/th hard case + 8 mags for $1000. The problem I have is that its has an A1 upper ( not saying that is bad) but I really want to put an optic on it but Im a little limited on funds. So should I A. save and get an optic to mount on the reciver or B. purchase a flat top and save some more and buy an optic or C… I got nothing for C Thanks in advance
I tried running an EOTech on top of my carryhandle on my first AR and I couldn’t get proper cheek weld to save my life. If you want an optic that has no magnification you could run a co-witness cantilever mount similar to what this Filipino SEAL is using: http://www.sadefensejournal.com/images/home_bg.png

If you want a magnified optic I would recommend buying a rifle that’s already equipped with an optic rail. Check out some of the info around here and find out exactly what you want.
You could always buy a flat top upper stripped receiver and swap all the stuff from the A1 over to it.
What optic are you planning on getting? Exactly how much are you set on spending?
The reason I ask is that Eotech is offering factory rebates (bot sure exactly how much) but that may offset cost a bit and leave room to get an upper.
well thanks alot yall for the advice. today while talking to a guy im deployed with he tells me hes into guns and things and is going to trade me for a flattop. so all i need now is to figure out what route im going to take with optics. like i said thanks alot yall.
