The New Zealand Army has adopted the Lewis Machine & Tactical LMT .308 AR-10 rifle as their Designated Marksman Rifle. Last year British Army also adopted the LMT 308 as a designated marksman rifle.

The rifle looks to be a similar configuration to the British L129A1. The differences that I can see are the use of a Leopold 4.5-14X scope instead of a fixed power Trijicon scope, a foldable foregrip and backup iron sights mounted at a 45 angle. This is the first time I can recall a military AR-15/AR-10 rifle being issued with angled iron sights.

Freaking outstanding, thanks Cameron for posting this as I had no clue.

Learning this on the actual day that I inked on my personal MWS…priceless:dance3::dance3:

Very cool news. Also, I am glad to see the 20" barrel getting some use with a more precision oriented scope than what the brits are using.

I want a set of them there offset sights. I can see the old women who run my home range wetting their panties now.

Very nice. Set up same as in the Combat Arms article with scope and Dueck offset irons.

I didn’t know they had an Army?

Sorry, couldn’t resist.

At least they got brakes to tame that recoil…

What does the 20" barrel bring to the mission that the 16" doesn’t it? Transonic range, bullet drop, etc. aren’t significantly different are they?

A 16" or 20" barreled rifle isn’t going to be significantly different in a house clearing or vehicle born application is it?

Its up to you to interpret and then answer the questions you may have…personally, I won’t be running anything over a 16" Rock 5R SST on my MWS. A future Rock 5R SS .260 MWS option will be a different story as I will then be going w/ a 20" barrel in all likely hood. I believe all my requirements for a longer range .308 precision piece will be meet with a highly accurate match grade 16" barrel. The Brit’s have certainly already proven this in their use thus far w/ the L129A1s, as denoted by having confirmed kills all the way up to 1300yds.

While discussing this amazingly long confirmed, a fellow member was nice enough to give us a little bit of data behind this shot.

Good stuff, thanks Gents…
Some switched on cats after reading the comments in blog.

Good to see LMT getting more military contracts.

Great news for LMT!

100fps equals at least another 100 yards of fragmentation distance, maybe a bit more? The real difference would be the carbine vs rifle gas system.

Was going to go to the range yesterday to pound some steel out to 500yards- but my newest stick wasn’t ready to take home yet so probably the first week in November.

Actually they have been wherever the Brits have been for the last 150 years anyway. Currently I believe they have 2 (two) infantry battalions so don’t know if this is a large contract or just the idea that another nations armed forces adopted the LMT.

SWEET!!! This reassuring news came out at the perfect time. Trident just got his rifle and I just committed to one:happy:

Trident…PICS!!! Your pics will hold me over until next payday in 2 weeks. I dont think i’ve ever been so excited for a rifle.

I called Buds gun shop to ask about layaway because they had a pretty good price on the MWS and the guy on the phone was very rude and not helpful at all. Regardless, I went to the bank to up my debit card limit (was only 1k/day) and right as i was about to order i accidentally clicked on the wrong Google link which took me to an MWS at a store called Kentucky Gun Co. The price was great at $2,319 and after speaking with a very nice lady named Sarah i put $1500 down.

I have never once heard of this place but the reveiws seem to be good. Does anyone have any experience with them??? Thanks

Cant wait to join the MWS club:D

I’ve bought from them with no problems. They sell on Gunbroker.

LMT makes a sweet rifle. I wonder why they didn’t choose the 308 for their marksman rifle.

I agree with the previous post…why does New Zealand have an army?

Ok thanks for the reply. I’m glad to hear something positive about them other then the reviews on their own website.

They did get rid of their Air Force a few years ago…

By the time they would have to have one it would be too late. Better to help out your friends than wait till you don’t have any friends left.

In the vide, there at 0:16 it looks like the iron sights are at the 45 , on the right side of the weapon?
