You can get a paddd VCAS AA from G&R for less than $50.
I prefer the VCAS over the Vtac, though the Vtac is a good sling.

Both are good slings. The VCAS is more my cup of tea, the Acetal adjuster, and Victory versions are great for lower price points.

Of the two VCAS I have, both are great, the one I took to Afghanistan worked great, and the paddind made it easily the best sling I saw out there.

so has anyone tried this upgraded version?

Personally I think there is more in common between the various 2 point adjustable slings (VTAC, VCAS, Gear Sector, etc) than there are significant differences. I used the original VTAC, but having seen buddies cram the loose ‘tail’ up their magazine wells while reloading in unconventional shooting positions, I replaced it with the VCAS when those came out. I also preferred the wider material of the VCAS.

However, I recently picked up a Noveske VTAC upper, and it came with one of the new Mk2 VTAC padded slings. I decided to try it out, and so far it has solved the criticisms I had of the original VTAC…the padding is wide and comfortable, the tail is now captured by a velcro loop, and it retains more adjustability than the VCAS. I highly recommend it.

I don’t think you can go wrong with either the new Mk2 VTAC slings or the VCAS.

I use to rock a VCAS but have since moved to a VTAC sling.

Both are very well made slings and serve the job they are designed for.

I go with the VTAC because it is easier to adjust and has a wider adjustment range.

I have never had any problems with the free running tail getting caught in anything (I have the model with the velcro keeper).

Try out both slings and see what one you prefer.

I don’t have the “improved” VTAC, but I do have several of the original VTACs, padded and otherwise. They are GTG.

I have the padded version, works as advertised. Comfy and well made. Either sling you get is fine.
