[inspired by John_Wayne777’s cool M1 Carbine thread in this forum]
Well, CMP came through for me. God Bless 'em.
I ordered an M1 around late March (?) and on 22 May received an “We regret that we will not be able to fill the order that you submitted” e-mail. I kept the order active, and this week was blessed to receive a rack grade Greek. [:)]
This is my first M1. I’m a total M1 neophyte (newbie), so any comments, observations, info, opinions, pointers, and so on (on the rifle or on resources for learning) are welcomed!
On to the pictures…
Barrel marking:
A little Google with the SN tells me the born-on date is November 1943:

These pics are “fresh out of the box.” I haven’t had it out of the stock yet.
I know I have lots to learn these fine old rifles.
Just looking down the bore (with some light), it looks pretty good, as far as I can tell.
I’ve yet to drop the round into the muzzle for the quickie bore wear test. (The only .30-06 ammo I have right now is soft point stuff for my deer gun.)
A friend recommended taking it to the next gun show and letting the Gus’ Garands guy evaluate it.
