New (To Me) High End 1911 Mfr - Cabot Guns

Anyone familiar with Cabot Guns?

Interesting claims made. All engineers. And they think like me. They claim that parts are fully interchangeable btwn their pistols and all tolerances are 0.001" so they should not be too tight like some.

Everything is US-sourced and everything is milled from forgings.

They also employ some very nice metal finishing and coatings, too.

Check them out.

You can have a quality custom from http://www.heirloomprecision.com/ for the price of their stuff!

Cabot has some nice looking guns on their site.

I’ve never heard of them before, which really doesn’t mean anything  , but I would want to hear from folks that own their guns before I dropped my money on one.

typical engineers likely, think they have it all sorted out in their computers and calculators and miss all kinds of important things that actual shooters want. I see all sorts of horrid aesthetic choices, as well as some simply bad choices from a shooter standpoint.

I agree with the premise, it should be possible to produce quality 1911s with a strict adherence to tolerances, but nobody else seems to have been able to do it, which to me is a clue.

I have not been keeping up on the price of 1911’s for a few years now but $4700 for the GI model sounds a little steep.

They also offer a true lefty design called the South Paw. $5k+ though. The factory is located somewhere here in Western PA.

More like fucking retarded. John Harrison can build you a Fullhouse for that price along with many of the other top 1911 smiths… Not sure who did their business pro forma but they might want to rethink their model.

What aspects of the guns do you find to be done poorly? Not disagreeing at all, just curious on your take

Check out 1911.com or some of the other 1911 forums for details… Ron

Follow the attached link to M1911.org’s sub forum for Cabot Guns. They realize that the prices of their guns make them non-accessible to most shooters. It also appears that they are targeting a certain niche within the 1911 market. In other words, most of us aren’t going to buy one or even want to buy one. I like the GI, but I don’t know if I will ever buy one of their 1911s.
