Great post, 'gunz!

Thanks for the procedure and for taking the time to write it all up.

Thanks for taking the time to write that IG. It’s just in time too. I’ll be assembling my first rifle this evening and I’ll be using that post as a reference.

Thank you - well thought out and nicely done.

Great thread IG! Thank you for taking the time to write that up and post it.

Explained so even a caveman could do it, nice work Gunz.

Very good information all in one place.

On a side note, I do wish it had some pictures to at least show what parts a person should be looking at, as well as at least proper installation, for those of us (like me) who are still in 1st grade with this stuff. I know that would be time consuming, but it would sure be a nice addition.

Yes, they could.

Good job, Iraqgunz!
I think I may print that post and stick it in the range bag.

Nice stickie, Iraqgunz, and I’m sure it will help many here.

Only suggestion is in Step 5 to warn new people to catch the hammer with their thumb when doing a function check of the FCG with the upper removed.

Excellent idea!

I have a similar list when I “pre-flight” my motorcycle before I ride, especially when at a track day. I have done it so many times I don’t even look at the list anymore and my friends have finally stopped making fun of me when they all started to have issues that could have been caught if they simply had done the same thing.

I think the gas rings should be staggered for assembly.

I had one side of the first ring get pushed back into the gap of the second ring when assembling a BCG. The rings were badly damaged and had to be replaced.

Patch out any excess lube and look through the barrel for any obstructions before firing.

Very good IG and thank you for all the helpful info you and all the others post on this forum. I’m new to ARs and if not for all of your help, I would have made some mistakes and would have spent too much money.

Nice post. In the linked thread you mentioned that gauging things are addressed elsewhere, but I’m curious. Have you put any more thought to getting a set of gauges made? I remember you throwing the idea around a while back.

Todd,

Aside from that freak accident. Have you ever seen it make a difference otherwise? I know I haven’t. I also happen to know that Kyle Defoor and Ken Elmore have both fired M4’s with only one gas ring in place and the weapon worked.

I think I mentioned check the barrel for obstructions and running some patches through it.

If I have to tell someone to wipe their ass, they should just buy some Pampers. You still have to have some common sense and I can’t account for v=every scenario. I may update it just in case…

Well written, informative. The only critique I would have is the addition of pictures.

Nice job, bro.

I did consider pics. But, it would have been a huge page or I would have to break it up.

Since pics have been mentioned. Exactly what pics do you want to see that aren’t already posted?

I just want to re-emphasize that if you don’t know what a magazine release is, or how to disassemble the BCG, this will be of very little use to you.

A thing of beauty. And another perfect example of why I choose to frequent this board. The level of knowledge and experience is unparalleled.
