I picked up a Ruger LCP earlier this week a long with the crimson trace laserguard. I have previously had experience pocket/ankle carrying a S&W 442 and a Kahr PM9, but had sold both previously due to other issues. I have heard nothing but good things about the LCP from quite a few people who know more than me, so i figured why not give it a try, worst case I can sell it if it doesn’t fit my needs. I normally carry a m&p 9c in a raven phantom or a Glock 19, the LCP I bought to fill my pants/pocket in times when I can’t normally carry a larger gun or if i were to hypothetically carry in those “other” ares
. Once I received the gun, I immediately ordered some .380 ranger-T, three magazines (2 for training 2 for carry) and a wolf 13# spring setup (recommended by several people). I will be carrying it for now in the provided crimson trace pocket holster, which seems to work decent, but I have a Raven concealment ACR and pocket holster on order.
I hope to run the gun and sight in the CT laser guard today at my grandpa’s range, if it all runs well the gun will see weekly use in both my dry fire sessions and live fire time (probably 50 rounds a week).
Here are a few pics, ill probably grab some more later.
I like mine a lot. The CTC laser makes up for the nearly non-existent sights. It’s great for those times that I need to dress up a little and/or don’t want to be made carrying a full sized sidearm.
It does make your hand smart with defensive loads, and it’s not too pleasant with FMJ either, but it’s my “better than nothing” gun.
Any problems with grip with the laser attached? Maybe it’s just the angle of the pic or my lack of any experiance with lasers on guns but it appears quite thick where your finger rests on it.
It doesn’t add any perceptible thickness to it. It does activate the laser as soon as you get a firing grip on it. Of course your pinky has no home on the grip.
I agree, it really doesn’t bother me, but then again I have been using guns with either a grip activated laser or light for the last few months. I am trying to train myself to gripping harder with my ring finger and less so with the middle, that way I only activate the laser when I want to.
I bought one new a while back with the intention on second BUG carry or as a pocket gun for running and the gym. I also had the CTC laser on it, which was the only way to go due to the sights or lack there of. My wife did not care for it, said she liked her bigger HK and Glock with more grip to hang on to.
It shot ok, it really liked Remington Golden Saber hollow points over most other hollow points. It carried well in a pocket holster and/or an ankle holster, pocket was ideal for it. However, being a .380 and the fact that the slide does not lock back on an empty mag, just didn’t work for me and my needs as a carry pistol./BUG It was sold and I continue to carry the j-frame or PM9 for BUG with more stopping power. The guy I sold mine to bought it as an addition/BUG to his new Ruger LC9. It was fun to shoot though.
