Anyone seen the new polymer frame Rock River Arms 1911??? It does NOT have a full length guide rod!!!

That’s a new one on me. I’d like it if RRA got back into the 1911, they made some very nice ones that somehow never got the accolades they deserved.
iirc they were built on Baer frames and slides, which to me is part of the appeal.
build it with a picatinny rail and i’m in.

Here’s what gets me…
Yet…
I am not seeing the lower cost part ![]()
Not opposed to a poly frame but it better have an advantage beyond weight as I don’t mind weight much in my 1911. Maybe a double stack with integrated grips like most polymer guns to keep the girth down. A railed version makes sense but I have an SA operator so I don’t need another railed 1911.
If MSRP is around $800 that puts it in competition with the ruger SR1911 and I’d rather have that.
Agreed. I’ve been on a limited match quest for over a year now.
$800 for a GOOD 1911 is a nice price. Now if this is a good 1911 or not is going to be the question.
The original rock river 1911’s were absolutely fantastic guns especially for the price. I have owned three of them.
However when RRA got out of the 1911 business suddenly, they abandoned their 1911 customers as well. Would not answer the phone, would not respond to faxes, mailed letters, emails. Nothing.
That did not sit well with me at all.
The pistol looks good but as far as I am concerned, 1911s don’t have polymer frames. YMMV :dirol:
I’ve been wanting exactly that for a long time.
If they’re worth messin’ with, they could quite possibly kick a Glock out of my holster. And I’m a Glock guy.
FWIW, I bought a RRA Basic Carry a few years ago and it was trash. I guess I got the only ugly one, but man it was nasty. The frame, the slide, and the grip safety were butchered beyond anythig requiring a bunch of welding. Oh well huh?
I’m fairly open minded when it comes to 1911’s but I think I have to draw the line at the word “polymer”. It may be a nice gun but I dont have any use for it.
Same staff as before? If so, I’m pretty sure that the gun should run right, and be damn accurate.
Did they procure and fund this, or is this some sort of re-badged import with no “hand fitting”, etc?
This isn’t the first time someone has tried a poly frame 1911. As all the others and regardless of quality, it will fail more than likely.
Very good question.
A polymer 1911? John Moses Browning just shit in his coffin.
The past RRA 1911’s were appreciably more expensive, In Knighthawk, Les Baer price range so it is a substantial reduction in cost over what they used to offer. But that pistol looks like a Rock Island and a Glock had a one nighter. Not for me.
I’ll stick to my range officer…
:agree: Good one!
Maybe, but he was a pretty cutting edge gun designer. If he was around in the 70’s and 80’s he may have designed the very first and best polymer pistol before Glock, etc. I’m sure it would have had a WAY better trigger tough![]()
BTW, Kimber tried this several years ago as well with a double stack. There is one guy at the club who still shoots one and loves it…despite the fact it was sent back twice with a cracked frame…
