New Reticle Options for LED ACOG

Looks good, wish they would do the same on the TR24.

I really need to get an Acog…

awesome now make a 1-6x that doesn’t suck.

What about the VCOG is so deficient as to earn your contempt. I appreciate that the factory mount is less than ideal. However, my understanding is that the glass is on par with Leupold, the illumination is daylight bright, controls are serviceable, etc. I suppose that it is on the heavy side, but not unreasonably so when you factor in the mount. I’m also thinking that Larue or another reputable company will come along with better mounting solutions.

I ask because I’m looking for an optic for my SCAR 17. Given that rifle’s reputation for chewing optics and the volume that I plan to shoot, Trijicon was on my short list of manufacturers. My other option is to slap a CompM4 on it and call it a day since I have a couple spares and 3X FTS magnifiers.

I just wish the vcog had mrad markings.

Weight is one, no reason for it be as heavy as it is.

Price, yes I know its on par with many in the industry in that regard but its no Z6i or USO, it shouldn’t have that price. I would consider it in the $1,000 price range, not its current market price.

Glass isn’t bad, but its not top tier either. I expect top tier stuff from trijicon and the vcog disappoints in that regard.

The factory mount is junk, no way around that, why even include one if it sucks so bad?

Recticle is daytime bright, but limited choices ACOG’s have a lot of reticles how about employing them in a 1-6 or 1-4 platform?

Speaking of which, why couldn’t they take their 1-4x optics and add acog reticles? I’d have one.

I eye-****ed one on a few occasions and they weren’t impressive enough to the point I would absolutely need one. I’ve owned dozens of trijicon products and have been happy with their performance, I just think they shit the bed on this one by trying to get in the market quickly.

I just posted in a thread on TOS that the LED ACOG with the horseshoe would be nice.

Trijicon’s horseshoe is a much better balanced design that the other such options on the market.

If Trijicon had just made the Led ACOG a 1-4 switch power like the Elcan then we would not have to read how much everyone hates the VCOG.

True, but then we’d be reading about how the Switch COG sucked. There is just no pleasing everyone.

What’s the street pricing on these?

I am very interested in these! But it looks like it’s still using the TA-31 housing, doesn’t that still have the eye relief issues? I’d rather have it in TA-11 or TA-33 form.

Yes. Still the same eye relief. This model was designed to eliminate the reticle washout when shooting from a covered position at a target out in the bright sun.

However, another key design feature…the position of the Red Dot mount which is more forward on the scope.

It’s Trijicon’s answer to the Browe Combat Optic.
Unfortunately, both use the TA31 short eye relief.
The Browe is a better design. The Brightness can auto adjust to lighting conditons.
IMO, fixed power acogs compromise too much over newer variable power 1-4x, 1-6x, etc.

Respectfully, I disagree with most of this. The TA31 series has short eye relief. The tradeoff to this is an absolutely amazing field of view. I defy anyone to find a similar 4x optic with anywhere close to the same field of view. For moving targets, a wide field of view is VERY important.

Auto adjustment isn’t always the best. There are many circumstances where it isn’t ideal. IE mixed lighting environments in urban areas. The ACOG LED also employs a rotary knob, I much prefer this over any push button controls. Much faster.

Low power variables are next to worthless for what people ACTUALLY do with them. They are great for fitting into a very narrow rule classification in gun games.

A MUCH more ideal solution in short (sub 300 yard) tactical type situations is a fixed 4 or 6x scope with an offset RDS solution. There are height over bore offset issues in using an RMR mounted on top of an ACOG, but these can be mitigated through training and the appropriate zero distance.

Well isn’t that just great. Just a few months after I get my TA02 they come out with green illum and different reticles

That sucks. I’ve been wanting one for a long time but have been holding off just for this reason. Maybe what you need is another rifle??

That’s a very good idea! I actually just built one but it’s going to be serving a more precision role. I’m thinking about going ahead and getting another lower and build one over time but this college budget has to catch up from the last one!

That “sucky” optic might just win the big Army contract.

Love my TA02, wish they would expand the LED lineup to include the 1.5x16s.
