New product Info vs Unapproved Advertising

How do we talk about a new product we come across without being accused/guilty of unapproved advertising?

Just read a locked post for this very offense and I can’t figure out how the poster could have mentioned the product without sounding like he was advertising.

The way I see it:

The original post took the form of a press release. This was not a quick post by a third party relaying the news (“Hey guys, have you heard anything about the new BCG coming later this year”) but was written by the manufacturer to inform the public about their product. Typically this is considered advertising, and since many forums charge for companies to advertise with them, it could be considered to be an attempt to get around having to pay a fee, hence the lock (or deletion.)

Since the second post copied the entire text from said press release, it is not outside the realm of possibility that the person who posted it is somehow connected to the company, again getting around the advertising fee, again hence the lock or deletion. (I’m not saying this is the case, only that it is possible, though I doubt it is true.)

This is all just my opinion, and should not be held against any of the parties involved. I’m actually looking forward to being able to buy one of those new products, since it sounds like it will be high quality - but the correct thing for the manufacturer to do would be to contact forum staff and inquire about their policy regarding advertisements.

Just my 2 cents.
