They look about as solid as a BCM Gunfighter. They use screws to keep the bottom plate on, but the pins for the latches themselves look pretty beefy. It looks like red loctite keeping the screws in from the picture of the disassembled one.
I’m kind of on the fence about the URL push button CH, but the ADF looks solid enough to give it a try when they become available. Thoughts?
While they do look cool, they sure are complicating a simple part. Thats alot of parts for a CH, and I like to avoid screws on my guns when possible. Not sure about this one.
I had the same initial reaction. Depending on the cost, if they are comparable to the BCM offering, I wouldn’t mind picking one up and beating on it a little bit to see how sturdy they are. I would like to think that if they are going to offer something like this, that it will be at least as sturdy as the BCM.
Interesting… I think I’ll just stick with my BCM charging handle. I always rack it with my left index finger, no need for the ambidextrous capability in my eyes.
:laugh: Hey markm, tell us how ya really feel, !!! I agree, they look “interesting” for sure, but as stated, lots of little parts & pieces !! Also,I didn’t see a price !!! If they are in the BCM price range, maybe worth a look,at anything more,Hmmmm, probably not for me !!!
Complicated yes…but for us southpaws, probably the best option out there yet.
If anyone has a better recommendation, please fill me in. The day BCM releases an ambidextrous charging handle is the day I’ll max my credit card replacing the CH on all my rifles.
I was kind of thinking the same thing. They look about as sturdy as my Mod4, but being a lefty I think this is a viable option. I’m not going to go out and empty the bank replacing all the charging handles in a fleet of rifles with these without testing one first. However, it’s kind of funny that people already ‘hate’ it before it has even been released. I’d like to hear from someone who has actually used one. I get being speculative, but outright condemning a product before it’s even available is something I would expect out of ARFcom, not M4C.
when tom at armament dynamics showed me the CAD drawings of these charging handles back in march, i bombarded him with a lot of questions (as is my nature as an engineer). he had good answers to them all, which indicated that he’d thought through the design thoroughly.
the true test, of course, will be some long-term use in the field. as a lefty, i’ve always been a proponent of redefining the ‘standard’ AR as a fully ambi weapon. making the AR ambi doesn’t affect those who don’t want an ambi weapon - it only affects those who do.
manufacturers should be encouraged to come up with new stuff. more choices only benefit the user. if you don’t like ambi stuff or feel a need for it, don’t buy it - it’s that simple.
yup - i plan to check them out when they’re released. i like the armadynamics ACLM as it’s worked well for me so far. the only thing i don’t like about it is the separate handle design, as that’s a potential failure point, but these new designs seem to have addressed that.
I was intrigued until I saw the itty bitty phillips head screws.
Redesign the cover to interface with the machined in handle portion and use roll pins to hold it in place and I’ll be back to take one for a spin. Until then I’ll just rely on my BCM Gunfighters to keep things simple and proven.
Im not sure that an ambi CH was such an attractive option, as opposed to just making a lefty version for the wrong-handed.
Some people see ambi controls and go, “cool! I can run it with either side!” Other of us just look at it as doubling our chances of snagging it on gear, pulling the bolt slightly out of battery.
I used to think ambi 1911 safeties were really cool too…until I found that I had swept off the safety with my forearm.
Of course, it is nice to see that someone is hard at work, answering the questions that nobody’s asking
