Are these new or used Colt (Okay Industries) magazines?
I bought these online from a well known supplier who advertised these as new. I asked them on the phone and emailed them these pictures. They said they talked with Colt and these are new.
I do not believe for one minute these are new magazines.
The severity of the scratches on the top of the magazine indicate these mags have been inserted into a magazine well several times. I know of no company that checks fit or function in that manner.
I can only conclude these are used or refurbished magazines.
In the past I’ve purchased new Okay Industries magazines and they have never shown this amount of wear on delivery.
I guess in the current market one can sell anything advertised as new and not be challenged.
My patience is growing thin. I only wanted an admittance these are not new. But neither the retailer nor manufacturer wants to admit that. Very poor customer service and lack of ethics in my humble opinion.
I just received new NHTMG mags that look just like it. They’re not individually wrapped and I believe NHTMG said they test fit before shipping. The finish on the AL mags is thin and soft.
If it bothers you, hit it with some matte clear. The gray will darken and scuffs will greatly minimize. I airbrushed some number identifiers on mine and did a couple light coats of matte clear to help the airbrushing hold. Looks really good.
Should have sold it to me. I wouldn’t have complained about the age or anything. Might even have sent you an LWRC sticker and a bolt carry you could bury as a thank you
And I vote that the mags are new. If I remember correctly OKAY and NHMTG both do insert them several times in a rifle to check for fit. Ok it might not be a rifle but perhaps a jig that replicates the magwell but same difference. It’s part of their quality checks and yes it scuffs the finish. I think it was all discussed in the very lengthy “move back to USGI magazine” thread so it might take some time to track down the actual posts.
