My head hurts. C-Grunt and a few others offered solid advice. Run with it or run with scissors. I personally like the idea of buying 3 cases of ammo and getting some good instruction with a basic solid gun first.
You may have a point with the bolt thing. There’s no doubt that the AR bolt could use some updating. At the same time, be careful about marketing claims, especially when it involves running a rifle without cleaning it. Any AR can run more or less indefinitely without cleaning, as long as the conditions aren’t too bad and you feed it plenty of CLP. Any AR will also run dry for a time, even with a phosphate BCG, so be careful of that one too. For example, I once heard a company claim that they had a barrel that did over 50k rounds and still held .5 MOA. Then there are lots of people claiming their BCGs don’t need lube, ever.
Just out of curiosity, is the Knights BCG interchangeable with a standard AR15? If not, there are similar products that will if memory serves me correctly. I’ll have to check around on that. In any case, that Knights bolt does appear to be a very exceptional design.
It’s a fact that a rear heavy rifle makes for steadier offhand shots. That’s why match shooters put lead weights in their stocks, and it’s why bullpups are so beloved. It takes stress off of your support hand, making you less shaky. If you don’t believe it, shoot a ten round group unsupported at 100 yards with your AR, then shoot another one with a 1 pound weight on your stock.

But experience in actually shooting offhand has verified to me that a rifle that is slightly muzzle heavy hangs better while shooting offhand. The UBR made my AR carbine feel heavy and dead
Dude you need to slow down…way down lol. Use the search function on here and read for at least a month. After your brain has been filled with too much info, take a break. The knowledge on here is immense. You should be looking to take a carbine class and what you need for it. You will be able to talk with others about their setup and why they use it and see a few things. There is lots to buy.
As for a gun…I’m a KAC owner, yes I think they are the best, but they are expensive. Changing out a rail is not easy on a mod2 either. Leave it if you decide to get one. Keymod is the future. I would get a dot first (aimpoint T1/2 the gold standard of dots), then maybe a simple scope like a PST 1x4 if you think you need it. I ring steel @ 500 with a dot. It just takes practice. An AR is a battle weapon first and foremost. Dm second, after you know what you are doing. Avg fire fight is @ 75 yards I think.
Guns in order of best to least:
KAC SR-15 mod 2- shoot one and you will know why it has the reputation it does. It’s considered an exotic. If you were to shoot 10 rifles in a row with duck tape over the name, then go back and select the one you think shot best, you would pick up the KAC. It shoots softer/feels good in hands/well balanced.
Noveske Great fit and finish excellent shooters. Sexy as hell flared lower !!
Daniel Defense this is the only one I have not owned,but have shot, a good rifle but heavy rails. Finish is a hair better than BCM.
BCM- best bang for your buck and for a good weapon, I use lots of BCM parts. Their KM rail is nice, best of the no frills guns. BCM rocks !!
Colt - the old standard for a plain rifle, buy one and you will want a FF rail soon to hang accessories on. Best cheap AR to own.
Any of these I would stake my life on in a bad situation.^^^^^ Drive any of these like you stole it, and then some. Just keep it wet.
Most of the rest of AR’s are bottom feeders you see in gun rags, the ones you hear and read most about. Recreational guns you shoots 20 rounds out of, then put back in your bag.

Belt-ares are great, but others are out now about as good.
Hiking shoe/boots- I use Solomon’s
Knee/elbow pads if your old/bad knees
Ear protection- Peltor or MSA Sordin (best there are, I use them)
20 pmags- pick a color- use with a striplula
Range box- put your pare parts in/cleaning supplies. I use MTM
Gun bag- pick one, you will have several in a year or so.
2000 rounds of 193 or 855(no steel core) like magtech
Don’t hang all your toys on the gun for a class, you will be holding it with your finger on the gas pedal all day long. As Chris says" Don’t let the gun hang on your sling bro"
I will not try and talk you out of a SR-15 mod2 16". The trigger(2 stage) and ambi lower make the purchase worth while. Beware, I have almost 3600 in each of my kacs fully kitted out.
BCM keymod 16" is going to be my other recommendation. just add a Geissle trigger. I use the SD series.
Going to a class will give you an excellent foundation in skills and increase your learning curve. You can learn what you like cheap or very costly. That part is up to you. What works well for one guy, will not for another.
Don’t dismiss “go cheap go Colt” they are good guns.
Go 16 instead of 14.5( which you have to pin the FH on perm). If you get a 16 you will be able to change the FH for a brake if you decide so.

I’d have a hard time justifying the added cost of KAC as a first ar type rifle. Nobody is 100% satisfied with their first rifle. Ever. You’ll wanna change pieces and parts over time to get it how you want it. A year passes and something newer/cooler comes out, you’ll want it.
Personally I’d buy one of the Colt OEM models, add a Fortis or Centurion rail (fsp cut out if you want the OEM rifle with a front sight post). Add a surefire, aimpoint, irons and a sling. I’d recommend the bcm gunfighter charging handle and stock as well.
KAC… hell yeah…Some folks have more money in their “gun fund” hell “life fund” than others. I agree with MarkM… the Stoner roll marks do give the warm fuzzies…
I don’t understand why you’d want to switch rails or stock. Get it shoot it and go from there. As mentioned your taste will change on some things.
There’s nothing wrong with someone spending extra for Snap-on vs Craftsman tools, even if the Craftsman is all you realistically need. Looks like a great setup, I personally don’t care for the UBR either as the SR15 is so balanced out of the box.
The D-EVO is actually pretty impressive once you get some time behind it.
^This. It’s a buyer’s market right now, so pick up a 6920 or 6720; there are several for sale in the EE, including mine.
Great advice has been provided. Let me add this. I, like many before me, have researched for hours, if not days, the best rifle, parts, optics, etc. to build my “perfect” setup. Buy once cry once right? While I’ve been very happy with my choices in the basic platforms, my tastes and preferences of the stuff that I decided to hang off of the rifle continue to evolve as I gain more experience. So what I thought would be “perfect” when I first pieced my rifle together, doesn’t necessarily represent the “perfect” choice for me anymore. There is new stuff coming out all the time and companies innovate. I guarantee you’ll want to experiment and change over time.
I guess what I’m saying is, don’t over think it and get married to any of your choices. Get comfortable with the idea that you will most likely be swapping shit out as you define yourself as a shooter and AR owner. This is also why many members here promote spending extra money on training classes and ammo/shooting. Find your identity as a shooter FIRST and your gear requirements will define itself through that experience.
I wish I could show you guys the drop tests the D-EVO has survived. On concrete from high up, attached to a rifle, repeatedly, without a scratch. It’s as tough or tougher than any optic available. If you’re looking to poke holes in the concept, look elsewhere because it is rock solid. There’s nothing you can do to it in the field that hasn’t already been done during T&E.
So what did Traumaplate end up doing ? buying the kac, t2 and taking a class is a solid decision.
Hochsitz I just looked at the D-EVO, it had me interested until I look at the price. Thats about 3 T1’s, no thankyou.

I would ditch the UBR, ditch the Leupold, and keep the SR-15 stock rail. Put the Aimpoint in a Bobro or ADM mount. Nothing is wrong with Keymod.
KAC rifles are nicely balanced and pretty light out of the box, as long as you don’t dick it up too much.
Also, unless I’m mistaken, this rifle is sold from KAC as an SBR without a pinned FH. How will you obtain it with a pinned FH without all of the NFA dog and pony show? Unless I’m missing something, just go with a 16’'.
Finally, nothing wrong with 77gr TMK, but it is money wasted vs a SMK or Nosler CC loaded cartridge if shooting under 400 yards or so.
From someone that has bought a bunch of fancy shit to hang all over an already expensive base rifle, get the SR15, the T1, the light and some ammo. Shoot it and leave it alone. You can always get the other stuff later but keep it as is for a while.
