I am new to the forum and would like some advice. I’m putting together my first lower receiver. I have a Daniel Defense Lower coming and would like some advice on which lower parts kit to purchase and who to purchase them from. This is my first project so I’d like to do it right the first time. I want to ensure accuracy and reliability.
I’d like a single stage trigger that is smooth with a nice break. I recall reading that someone was doing trigger jobs to smooth them out. Any thought on this vs an upgraded trigger assembly?
Also any recommendations on a mil-spec receiver extension, buffer and buffer spring would be appreciated. I am looking at VLTOR and MAGPUL carbine stocks.
Still mulling the upper over. Here are some thoughts. I am looking at a Noveske 12.5 or 14.5 inch barrel with switch-block for a can, forged VLTOR MUR upper receiver, anti-rotation interface and the 9.5" free floated SB handguard w/ 1913 rails handguard. I’m also looking at Century Arms. I’m retired Army and I really believe in supporting great guys like this. Key points will be the barrel length and a can. Also have to get that class three license for the can and short barrel which dictates final upper build.
Bill Springfield does the trigger work. I’d say 90% of people are very happy with it for the price.
I’ve actually buffed out my own trigger, and it helped remove some creep. No change in pull weight or length though.
I’d get a mil spec extension. I don’t think they cost more than commercial. I’d recommend the Spike’s Tactical ST-T2 buffer. It’s filled with powder and lessens buffer bounce, making follow up shots easier.
Your upper stuff is top notch, higher quality and cost than I’d ever buy, but definitely good stuff.
Just finished my lower build. I used a Spikes Tactical lower with a CMT/Stag LPK. The trigger seems very crisp with my chosen LPK and the quality is excellent. Used G&R Tactical’s mil-spec extension tube kit with a Magpul CTR stock - it fits great. Haven’t yet decided on which complete upper to choose; right now it’s a toss-up between Noveske and BCM. Any thoughts? I can’t wait to burn some powder.
I am tossing around the Noveske, and Century Arms uppers. Also a BCM hammer forged barrel and upper. I Guess it depends on what you are building the rifle for and what budget your trying to stick with. All three are excellent choices and BCM comes in much lower on price. Post some info when you get it done.
Fdxpilot and Lethal dose thanks for the info on LPK’s and triggers. Those were the direction I was leaning in and should get the job done without spending a wad. Thanks again.
If it were ME, I would go BCM over Noveske for a short barrel or general purpose AR. If you want something with above average accuracy, that’s where Noveske shines.
I don’t own either (BCM BCG but that’s it) but from reading a lot it seems the BCM is less expensive but both are top notch uppers.
I have the N4 Light Basic upper and I feel that I definitely got my money’s worth. I have the BCM non HF upper as well. For the price the BCM is the cheapest piece of mind on the market.
