It is a wonderful thing, to see such brave Soldiers recognized.
Awesome.
Yet strangely, the American people could really give a fuck less. Think of some of our other MOH winners from WWI and WWII. They were met with national critical acclaim. These days, a story about a man awarded the MOH is in 5th place somewhere behind a story about some congressman’s penis, a story about that Justin Bieber faggot, and the media chattering about Youbetcha’s bus tour.
Sorry, having an Atlas Shrugged moment. Never mind the crazy old vet in the corner, he just gives a shit…
Couldn’t agree more.
And at risk of another “I can remember when…” old timer post, I do recall as a kid I could tell you who Audie Murphy, Alvin York and Greg Boyington were but I couldn’t begin to tell you the names of the members of the Rolling Stones (though I did know most of the Beatles).
It is a sad state of affairs that most kids today can’t name a single MOH winner from any conflict. Of course it is also a shame I can’t name many from recent conflicts but I know who the hell Lady Gaga is. The level of celebrity worship we are being fed and the lack of acknowledgment of true heroes is depressing.
Outstanding courageous selfless act
Petry assessed his wound and placed a tourniquet on his right arm. He then reported that he was still in contact with the enemy and that he had been wounded again.
Yeah. “Hey guys. I am engaged with the enemy still. By the way. I just lost my hand. Just thought you all should know. Now can we kill these guys and someone get me a band-aid”.
Sorry that is just what comes to mind. Some men really are more than others. I believe this is just one more example of that.
Previous decorations include two Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart and three Army Commendation Medals.
Sounds like he has his stuff together. Amazing thing!!
