First off, great site. I have been reading, searching and learning a lot about the AR platform. Much better than some other AR sites I have visited.
I am the owner of a CMMG 16’ Mid-Length upper. 1/7 twist, chrome lined barrel, 4150 steel, M4 feed ramps, parkerized under the FSB, F-marked FSB and T-marks on the receiver. I bought this before I came across M4c.net and made my purchase based on a lot of research from other sites. The upper has never been shot, other than the test firing.
I am considering selling it for a BCM 16"middy from G&R Tactical. I am already planning on a Fail Zero Basic Kit, GunFighter Mod3 charging handle and a 9" Troy MPF Drop-In rail for it. I already have the Troy rail.
My goal is to build a rifle that can be run hard, taken to classes, and will work every time. I like to take good care of my gear so it will take care of me. I have seen that CMMG is a bit of a hot topic here and I am looking for some opinions and advice. I did post on another forum and got a lot of “just shoot it.”
The BCM is good kit. If you want the piece of mind of knowing you are shooting “professional grade weaponry” and not have to worry about whether your kit will crap on you in the middle of a three-day class, Get BCM and don’t look back. You’ll kick yourself if you don’t.
What Lower are you running?
No lower yet, been looking at building one out of either a Spikes Tactical or BCM, possibly Mega. It will come when I have the funds. That whole paying off student loans while working as a automotive detailer for $9.00/hour makes the purchase of fun things hard but much more rewarding in the end. Unlike a lot of my college buddies, I know what it is like to actually work for what I want.
I saved for the Kimber on my hip $50-$100 bucks out of each check and sold my Springfield XD45 that I rarely shot and didn’t carry anymore to help fund my AR need. I am buying as I can afford parts.
I don’t have much experience with Spikes, but there was a thread a few days ago here on this site about the quality of Spikes–use the SEARCH feature to find it. I would read that before deciding, but Mega and BCM are good. If it were me, I would choose the BCM (get a complete one from G&R), because then you’ll have top quality parts in it too, and be getting a forged lower of the highest quality to go with your BCM upper…
After much thought and further reading, I have decided to sell my CMMG upper and go for the BCM. Now the fun part, what would be a half decent price for it? From looking around I am thinking about $525 including shipping. Thoughts?
If you’re not one of those Anti-Billet Nazis, take a look at Sun Devil…I really like mine and for the price, it’s a fantastic receiver…doesn’t have the same blemishes forgings do and there is a lot of attention to detail.
