So after doing some research, I headed out to the gun store today. The whole way there I told myself…I am getting the glock. The xd has too many bad reviews and is a bit on the pricey side of life. Well, for a plastic gun. I just do not see much value in them. I could not decide what I really thought about the m&p. I did shoot a 45acp a few years ago and cringed at it, but I had just bought a Wilson 1911 when Obama got elected.
Upon entering the gun store I headed straight over to the 9mm section, so there would be no distractions. After taking a look at the glock, I noticed I had to point, or should I say angle my wrist to get the sights to line up. I was hoping this would not be as pronounced as some reviews stated. After years of only shooting a 1911, I was kind of let down. The after market mods are hard to pass up on since almost everywhere there is support for them. Mods=fun !
So anyway, I went to the m&p 9mm right after the glock kind of disgusted was did not like the way the gen 4 felt. As soon as I picked up the m&p my first thought was rather good. It was close to a 1911 and I could change out the back strap out and change the mag release. Some times I hate being a lefty. !!
Needless to say I am a proud new owner of a m&p 9mm !!
Shot two clips out of it and and everything seems good so far. I know that’s not much ammo, but I did oil her up and pull it a few times. I was supposed to be deer hunting anyway.
Is Apex the best way to go for aftermarket parts ? I am looking to clean up the trigger a bit and go ahead and order a spare extractor just in case. The accuracy did not seem all that good, but I suck at shooting plastic guns.
I would rather shoot this While before I start tinkering with it. I did see the new barrels grant has in another post. How are those working out ?
The m&p isn’t a target gun, more of a defensive gun. It’s not for shooting bulls-eyes, but can group well if you do your part. If you can’t shoot it well, get both hands high up on the frame. Do that with any handgun and the accuracy should be similar.
Well I was deer hunting this weekend and drove up to the city to get it. I had been in the deer stand for several hours with the wind blowing And it wasn’t even cold here yet. So I decided to shoot a couple of clips through it to see if I liked my new purchase. I think it shoots pretty well, but its not a Wilson by any means. It will make a perfect trunk gun tho.
When I was leaving the pond after shooting, I had just made it back to the truck and out of the corner of my eye I see something. My first thought was rot roh !?!?!?! I should have walked back thru the woods instead of the open. It was a good size ten point buck trotting on the edge of the tree line. So I grabbed my AR and crawled back thru the woods in hope of spotting him. No dice !!
Now remember I had just shot two clips thru my new gun Being satisfied with how it felt. Gotta love the wind !!
So anyway, I plan on putting lots of rounds thru it over the next couple of weeks. What night sights seem well suited for the gun, and do any of you guys have trigger work done to yours ? I am going to try to just shoot it stock for a while before the upgrades begin. This week will be at a range so I can put it on paper.
To the OP, you referenced not being able to shoot poly guns as accurately as others. By chance are you shooting low and to the left? Many glock shooters do this when not used to them http://www.centerfiretraining.com/id15.html
It was low and to the left. I was shooting at a rock on the other side of the pond. When I did notice it was off I readjusted my grip and I began to hit it more often. (Right hand was sliding down and to the right)
I would say its more of a grip issue. I kept on moving around my grip, trying to feel for a good spot during the first magazine. Also, remember I am shooting left handed. The plastic was making my right hand slide around a bit. I will look later on today at some stiple jobs in the pic thread. I do have a wood burner that I use to stiple my pmags with. Working up the nerve to do a gun will will be a feat tho.
I do realize this is a new platform, which will take some getting use to. Overall I like the m&p tho. The only thing I plan on changing is trigger and nights sights.

Hey! If you guys can say “time” with respect to a flash hider as in “how do you time a flash hider?” and “shave” with respect to a front sight base as in “I’m going to shave my FSB.” then Wilson can say “clip”.
I’m sure that the other hunters that were downwind were overjoyed with your field-testing…
I’d suggest that you take your new purchase to a range, with some decent targets (i.e., the ones with a target and a background of 1" grids) and shoot it from 7, 15, and 25 yards, both using a rest and offhand. That’ll give you a feel for both the mechanical accuracy and how you specifically index to your M & P. You can then make any sight adjustments needed-or software (shooter) adjustments required. I’d hold off on making any permanant changes (i.e., stippling) until you’re really sure that they’re needed.
We’ve plenty of analogues of “What should I do with my new M&P…?” threads. We don’t need another one where the OP can’t even call the components by their correct technical names. It indicates a lack of baseline knowledge, making any conversations about internal components and the like pointless until he increases his knowledge base.
Way to do that is to try a simple Search using “new M&P” for keywords, limiting that to thread titles only, and to this subforum. Start reading.
