I’m not sure the market needs another mid sized 9mm striker gun, but if it’s $399 or lower, it’ll sell.
Hopefully it’ll do better than the “Ruger American Pistol” which seemed to slip below the radar fairly quickly. Maybe this one has a chance of making it to the two-year mark without a recall and/or safety bulletin.
I may try one, but dang sure not before winter 2026. ![]()
Seen claims it will fit stock 19 holsters which is a big plus.
Just further proof that the Glock style pistol is becoming as ubiquitous as the 1911. Everybody making a copy. Because it’s solid and it works.
So, who makes the best clone?
Yep. I’m re-visiting the Glock myself. It’s a little more work to be proficient, but after flirting with the 2011 shit, my love of reliable pistols is stronger than ever.
And inexpensive. $399 dollars an about as cheap as you can go and still get something serviceable. I’ll bet a lot of Fudd Glock haters will line right up for the Ruger.
Mark….which 2011?
My turd was the Springfield 1911 DS. After I bought it, I watched some youtube vids, and EVERY one had malfunctions.
The Staccato is the other one I’ve personally had malfs with. That wasn’t my gun, though. I remember the owner getting springs and followers sent from Staccato. I’ve seen a few Staccato Cs that run really good.
But overall, the 2011 has left a bad taste in my mouth. The mag bodies are too wide and too long for the 9mm round since they were originally 45 and 38 super. I got really annoyed with the 2011 when my son bought a CZ Shadow 2. I was like… why the Eff aren’t the 2011 mags like this?? The fit the cartridge and the frame could be that much smaller.
I found your posts in the other sub. What sucks about the 1911/2011 platform is consistency. This might piss you off but my Prodigy has been running fine. Maybe 2,500 rounds. I replace all the parts you had on your list. Only problem I had in the beginning was the firing pin not working with hard primers. SS firing pin fixed that. Doesn’t mean I won’t have issues down the road. But the platform is so sensitive to very subtle inconsistencies that it just isn’t too hard to get it wrong. And if QC sucks you’re going to have lemons. So I totally get the frustration.
That is odd and surprising. I have only handled one and didnt pay attention to the magazines.
Got me curious on another quasi legacy part. Am i right that it uses an original type internal extractor instead of a simple/straight forward/cheap external with coil spring?
Not pissed at all. I’m glad yours works. The last piece of my nightmare was that the factory mag would hit the slide stop and barely push the slide stop into place when there was still one round in the mag.
It’s supposed to be “fixed” now, but I put it in the safe and can’t even look at the mother ferker. Maybe in a year or so I can try it out.
Still runs the old internal extractor. And the more I look at the mags now, the more idiotic they seem. Massive wasted real estate. The grip isn’t too bad because of it, but it is silly.
Pappabear claims that Staccato is redoing the platform around the 9mm round. He’s gone ape shit on the platform with Atlas guns, Staccatos and everything.
Tell Pappa he’s my hero. Being as I’m 56 years old and don’t use them as often, I’d give one of my testicles right now for an Atlas Apollo.
He’s gone completely nuts. Most of these guns are tweaked for match shooting with “gas pedals” and that kind of stuff.
I try to focus my limited pistol shooting on practical/carry/defense. So I’m out there banging iron sights on a 40 cal Glock.
I know you’re not really a red dot guy and you are clearly a “basics” guy on pistols. But I’m having a ball with this one:
Be safe out there man.
Nothing wrong with Canik as far as I know. My thing is the exposed emitter is a “fair weather” sight system.
I’ve come to the conclusion that the closed emitter pistol RDS is the optimal solution. The downside is that there’s no getting around the plate mess with an ACRO since no good pistols come with direct ACRO mount.
My two gripes with the plate crap is that it mounts the sight too high, and it adds another layer of corrosion and fastiner failure to an already sketchy sight platform.

[/quote]I kinda wonder if S&W has a patent on that with 1911s somehow. Kimber used to do it, but went back to internal ones.
