new/first build - Noveske/KAC URX III

Hey guys,

been on the board for a while now. Have bought (and sold) several ARs now, but the most I have “built” one before was buying a complete lower and buying a complete upper. Right now i’ve got a few complete rifles that I like quite a bit, but after seeing and handling the URX series of handguards I really wanted a rifle with one.

I saw Project Ares from Noveske, but didn’t want a 14.5" barrel, so I set out to build my own:


Wish i’d gotten a better shot of the AAC MITER muzzle brake.

Here’s the breakdown:
Matched Noveske upper and lower receiver
ALG ACT trigger
Noveske BCG
LMT SOPMOD kit (includes full receiver extension and H buffer)
Noveske end plate
Magpul MOE grip
Noveske badged Troy rear sight
Noveske charging handle (gunfighter)
Noveske 16" N4 light midlength barrel
AAC MITER muzzle break
Knights URX III handguard
Knights URX handstop
Surefire scout light
Surefire FM55 red filter for scout
SR07 tape switch
Aimpoint T-1 micro in factory lower 1/3 throw lever mount

I think that’s it. Will hopefully get a chance to go shoot it tomorrow.

Now that’s some nice hardware. Looking forward to the range report, even though I know it will shoot :slight_smile:

First class; great looking and nice choice of parts. I wish I knew someone who had one close so I could see how those handguards feel; I can’t make the switch until I lay hands on it.

Man not putting you down or anything but that thing deserves a better picture. Sweet gun!!
What’s your reason for the filter on the scout?

Absolutely it does. I’m limited on composition inside my apartment, so I need to find a better setting where I can get some more light. Maybe borrow a tri-pod.

The red filter was chosen not so much for filtering color, but for protection. I knew the lens was going to end up pretty close to the muzzle brake, and I wanted to protect the lens since 90+% of my shooting will be daytime. Makes a pretty neat red glow :laugh:

Usually I am not too big on “custom builds” but this is really well done. Cheers!

The ACT trigger is a great buy for $65. Very smooth and crisp, not a lot of noticeable creep at all. The mil-spec in my LMT feels a lot worse.

It’s hard to tell but I actually went out and shot it a little tonight, and shot it with the suppressor a little too.

Some of the XM193 that went out of there made a pretty big fireball with that break. Suppressor quieted that right down.
