Unless Colt has worked something out with the California Department of Justice, this is not CA legal. Colt, Bushmaster, KAC, Olypic Arms are what are known as “listed lowers,” and they can not be legally owned, imported or sold in California regardless of the bullet button. As a matter of fact, per CA law, even the KAC RAS (yes the rail system) is a listed assault weapon in CA. Fucking retarded, but it is what it is.
We got ours yesterday. I like their bullet button they use. Instead of a nut that is open at the top and requires a funky pronged tool to isntall sometimes, it’s a closed top flat head slot. I didn’t realize Colt’s came with a sear block area not milled out. Not that it really means anything, but was interesting to me.
Rifles need to be specifically banned by make & model. these ones are not listed AW, therefore legal if configured correctly (either bullet button or featureless)
:suicide2: joke is on me! Was not trying to be a dick, I have been a CA cop for 13 years and I can’t even keep our dam laws for assault weapons straight. I was under the impression that the list is feature specific, not model and certain brands were automatic no go. In this job, you learn something new every day no matter how long you have been doing it.
I’m not trying to be a dick but I have a California legal Colt LE6940. When I go shooting I take ALL the purchase paperwork and a copy of the California Department of Justice Kasler v. Lockyer Assault Weapon List for fear of running into a LEO like you that doesn’t know the law.
I also plan to take all the purchase paperwork for the new Colt SP6920CA I just purchased from Grant just in case. Thanks Grant!
You’re not being a dick. I AM an LEO and I keep paperwork with me too. I constantly run into fellow LEOs who don’t know the gun laws or knife laws. Kills me. Pathetic really.
The only thing I don’t like about this Colt is the type of bullet button. All the ones I’ve tried with the button itself that screws in and out eventually back themselves out or tighten to much on their own when firing. The Vamfire that came with my BCM from Grant is the best one I’ve seen so far.
Someday, hopefully, we won’t have to deal with it anymore. But in the meantime, cudos to Colt for finally getting into this market.
If you look at the last year or so, it really seems like Colt is beefing up their civilian sales department. Which is nice.
1.) Everytime I read a thread that involves California, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, and/or New York, It just reinforces how grateful I am about where I live.
2.) The expectation that ANY law enforcement officer knows everything about every law they are tasked with enforcing within their jurisdictions is wishful thinking at it’s best. Glad there are people here that take the personal responsibility to prepare for such a contingency. Sucks that you have to do that but smart none the less.
