So I picked up a New Colt Rail Gun from my local gun store a couple days ago and I finally got to put some rounds through it today. Weather was nice but overcast and muggy. Gun was dissembled and lubed before firing, I put 200 rounds of Blazer Brass through it without a single problem at all. I plan to put another 200 through it tomorrow if weather allows. The pistol shot great (as I thought it would) even though my range was about 2 inches deep in water and I dropped the magazines in the sludge several times. I washed the mags out the best I could but some crap still made it into the weapon.
I shot from 10 yards to 25 yards, 2 handed traditional - strong hand only - weak hand only - moving and shooting - and from behind a barricade.
I am very satisfied with my m45A1 also. When attending Larry Vick era 1911 class last year he stated the colt rail gun and m45A1 were the best guns available off the shelf right now. I did not succumb to the brainwashing of my drills regarding keeping a gun clean. At 200 rounds I would not even bother cleaning. I generally clean every 500 or so even though mine gets filthy from cast bullet reloads. Runs like a champ. My take on things is if your gun will only run when white glove inspection. Clean there is something wrong with it. When I do clean it usually takes me all of five minutes. Clean enough is clean enough and anything beyond that is time wasted that could be used for something else.
If I had not gotten the m45A1 , the black rail gun would have been my next choice!
I put some more rounds through her today, Federal Hydra Shoks and some Remington Golden Sabres. It never missed a lick. I think I will be picking up another as soon as funds will allow.
Having my new Rail gun has made me question if I really want a M45A1. Colts NEW rail guns come with the beefier frame and the dual recoil springs just like the M45’s. Before getting the RG I was drooling over the M45 (like most other ppl) but now I don’t know. Other than the markings, paint job, and the grips can someone tell me why you would spend the extra $$$ on the M45 when you can get a RG which is now pretty much the same gun? I know that the CQBP is a custom shop gun but the M45A1 is build just like a standard RG from what I can tell.
Keep up the range reports, you may just talk me into this one, I really wish it was a series 70. I have my eyes on a 1911, keep going back and forth between the DW specialist, TRP and the Colt Rail??? I really want one of each BUT…
I put another 100 failure free rounds down the pipe today. The more I shoot it the better it gets. If you are on the fence about a rail gun just go ahead and pull the trigger This is the second rail gun I have owned and they just keep getting better. The first one I abused and tried everything to get it to jam that I could think of. I loaded different types of rounds into the same magazine and shot it - shot it dirty - shot it dry - shot it wet - shot it cold - shot it in the rain - shot it in the mud- ect ect… the only failure was a Fail to go into Battery, a quick tap on the back of the slide fixed it. I put 1000 rounds through that gun in the first week, including about 100 hollowpoints of different brands. I have had 4 Colts in the past year I an can tell you one thing, THEY RUN. Colts might not be as pretty as other makes, they might have some sharp edges that need attention, and they might not come with the extra stuff (night sights, checkering). But what you get with Colt is a no BS work gun. IMHO.
I can’t say I do or don’t get it, but I have had no troubles with my Series 80 guns. And in relation to the above post, all four of my Colts have run great, and the lowest round count of any of them is 500.
Glad to hear your CRG has been trouble free. I have a CRG in all black cerakote. It was a jam beast up to around 500-600 rounds then it now works fine. Not sure if it was ammo or magazine related.
I shot mine today. All Hornady 185gr XTP HPs. I was getting some 3 point jams and one particular CMC mag was giving me nose dive jams when loaded to 8 rounds. I think I may have to send mine off for some work as well. Other than that, nice pistol. Of course, the G19 I had with me as well, ran and ran and ran…
