new build

I am relatively new to modifying a stock m4, i am not new to firearms just new to this mod ,shotgun and sidearm have been my norm. I realize this could start a whirlwind of info and agreements and disagreements but here is my question …any advise for me i am on a limited budget or should i say i am limited to what i can pry out of my wife’s fingers . I will be building over time as the money presents itself, where should i start aside from the grip ,i hate the stock grip. i am looking for function over form, name brands do nothing for me unless its more than a name, close to mid range performance and reach out and touch somebody (i have two platforms to build off of) close to mid first. i really need inexpensive as possible (unfortunately). This is the time for me i have recently taken my wife with me to a FATS training and she loved it now she is interested in learning and shooting more. Anyway! any thoughts advice would be truly appreciated.

The most common response you will get on this board is by a quality baseline carbine from a reputable manufacture. Then mod it from there.
Company’s to look at include Colt, Bravo Company Daniel Defense, S&W, LMT.
Refer to the chart for more info on what seperates each.http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pwswheghNQsEuEhjFwPrgTA&single=true&gid=5&output=html

Dont buy cheap you will only regret it. Spend the extra 200 bucks and buy right the first time.

lots of info on that site! thanks its going to take me a while to pour through that. Probably going to regret asking this but here it goes. Did i waste my money buying a Bushmaster?

Not if its strictly a range gun. check this out https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=7376 and this http://m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=24397
