For those of us who are still fond of quality quad rails,
BCM just updated their upper receiver group offerings to include URG’s with DD Lite III rails. Imho, a BCM middy with a DD Lite III is about the best one can do in that upper-middle price range. The rail is very compact and light for a quad rail (much improved over the lite II, dimensionally speaking) and comes with all of the plusses of a properly constructed rail w/ that excellent DD bolt up system. I just picked up one of BCM’s 14.5 midlengths in this configuration…really feels and functions exactly as I want. Ive been waiting for a configuration like this for a while. Just thought id let everyone else know that this option just became available.
Cool. I think the Lite III is a great rail. Hopefully they dehorn 'em a little better than the very first ones.
I bought one when they first became available and every corner on it was so sharp it couldn’t be safely handled without gloves and rail covers.
Thanks for the heads up…I do prefer the RIS II (just ordered two of them on two different DD uppers), but it’s hard to beat DD rails on a BCM upper.
Very nice. With them no longer running Larue rails, my fall back would likely go to the DD Lite III, though the Centurion would be my next choice if I was looking for another quad.
That bad? I have a DD Omega that is a hell of a lot sharper than the Larue rail I have on another rifle. As in I could run it without covers, but it just ain’t comfortable, were as the Larue without covers is actually pretty comfy bare. Also find the DD Omega to be almost too tall to be comfortably gripped.
I used two RIS IIs for several years with no covers and never had a problem with 'em. That Lite III was just too sharp.
I really like the Slim Keymod rail too. I hope they put some uppers together with those too.
They list a 11.5 with a 10" lite 3 rail (out of stock though). I hope this means they started making the lite 3 in 10".
I don’t know if I ever played with the lite II much off the top of my head. I know I handled the Lite rail some, and the factry DDM4 rails(Which is the same from what I have come to understand) has been very smooth. Actually I might go so far as to say it is slicker than my Larue, and feels good in hand too since it isn’t as tall as my Omega.
I really like the profile of the RIS II as well, but at a little over 13 oz., the LITE III is quite a bit lighter than the RIS II (I think the RIS II is a little over 17 oz). Im really liking how the profile of the LITE III has moved away from the “I beam” feel of the LITE II and towards that tucked in bottom rail feel of the RIS II. The LITE III is quite slim on all sides, actually. In fact, the BCM gas block just barely fits in there. That tucked in bottom rail is millimeters away from the gas block in certain areas. I don’t think it’ll be a problem, though. Again, my initial impression of the upper group is really positive. Cant wait to take it out to the range.
Sample size of one, my LITE III isn’t particularly sharp. I could shoot it without gloves, no problem.
Of note, the image on the BCM website is not of the LITE III rail, its a picture of the original LITE rail. Like I said, profile of LITE III looks a lot different than the LITE.
