Probably working out the bugs.
Every once in a while a post blows your mind…
Could this be a mystery variable as to why some barrel-length/gas-system/buffer-weight setups seem to defy the conventions of what should cycle?
Which devices have expansion chambers and which do not? How do we quantify them?
As much as we obsess about buffers, gas length, barrel length, gas ports and even LMT enhanced carriers, how have we over looked this aspect of “tuning”?
I switched around iron sights on my two KMR uppers, and on one I had the move the windage pretty far to the left with rear sight and H-1 to get it zero’d. Previously on this same upper I had the Vortex zero’d and I do not recall having to move adjust the windage so much. I may have.
It was windy today so I thought that could be it, so I put the Vortex back on and shot a three round group that was dead center in the target, so it was not the wind.
I am guessing I messed up the barrel when I put the compensator on, I used an upper receiver vise block from Brownells. My brother said he saw the barrel move when I was doing the first turn on the comp before loosening it. So he wanted to do it, and the barrel never moved again, he was using pressure on his hands to take it off the barrel.
I am taking it back out tomorrow, though.
Is there anything to worry about if the windage is not maxed out, and I can it zero’d?
My three shot group with it at 100 yards. (16" fluted ELW.) The picture turned, so the stray shot is actually low not right.
Check to see if your barrel is centered in the rail. I already had to RMA an upper because there was a significant alignment issue. The second upper I have is slightly better, but not by much.
It is centered, and if it matters, a cleaning rod goes down the barrel without issue.
7lbs unloaded:cool:

I have yet to try any keymod system, but i have to say that I’m intrigued. It looks so easy. With I could get one on my pinned upper, but I don’t want to drill out my flash hider.
Pappabear and I took the 14.5 ELW out today and Shot it to 1050 yards with a stout 77 SMK load and a 10x. 16 mils of come up. ![]()
We got video of double taps on an IPSC size steel at 500. Boom Boom… Pang Pang. If I can get them and host them, I’ll post them. I like this gun more every time I shoot it.

I installed a KMR last night and it is definitely one of the easiest I have done. The genius of the way that the hardware interfaces with the barrel nut and upper is nice. You will not need a heat gun for this. I used a hairdryer on mine and it was painless.
When are you going to SHOOT??
That’s beautiful. I need to get a light mounted too.
Thanks. I like to think I am one of the 1st to rattle can my KMR upper since I bought it the 1st month it was out and painted it right away. Glad to see you and all the other guys testing the new barrel’s accuracy since I have only been to a 25 yard range. I feel even more confident in my standard ELW barrel KMR upper at distance now cause of you guys.

Just got my KMR back from Cerakote. If anyone is near Westminster MD, Bob Bollinger does some great work.
What color Cerakote is this ?
Wow! Hulluva upper/lower.
That looks excellent. I should be getting one in the next few weeks. Mine will probably just get krylon though.

Burnt Bronze.
I had this lower sitting in my safe and I already had it coated in FDE. I changed my mind on it at the last minute because it didn’t blend into my surroundings at all. This color does a much better job at blending in where I live.
Great looking color. Wish I had a local place that did cerkote.
You could always ship it to Grant from G&R. I know what you mean though. I’d always rather deal with stuff like this in person. I’m not really fond about shipping my stuff through the mail. Especially firearm parts. I drove a 3 hour round trip twice just to have mine done.
