Other than tolerance stacking and variance I wouldn’t imagine so. No idea what buffer S&W is running though, and while a carbine buffer might not cause issues, an H1 or H2 is preferred by many.
All uppers and lowers are built, or at least should be built to a particular spec. Now most manufacturers have a range that they consider in spec and from one manufacturer to the next there can be variance. Some spec on the high end, some on the low. What sometimes happens if you get two products that run on opposite ends they may not fit together easily or even at all. For example I have an RRA lower that is tight and will not fit an old bushy lower I have, nor a recent production BCM upper(at least not with out a lot of force.) But another RRA upper drops on fine, as does another BCM upper. This would be tolerance stacking.
As far as buffers go. I run H1s in mine, though I have thought of grabbing an H2 or even H3 just to toy with, and maybe stick in an old overgassed Bushy, but that neither here nor there. Again your upper should run with a carbine buffer just fine though.
I concur. The only ammo that has given either of my middys issue while running an H buffer is Tula .223 55gr steel cased ammo, and that is pretty well known to be shit ammo. Wolf, Hornady Steel match, various .223 and 5.56 ammo has not been an issue.
So I need to buy the H Buffer or do you think the stock S&W M&P Carbine buffer may work fine?
(I may be buying a new complete lower that comes with an H buffer at some point so I would hate to buy one and I don’t need it and end up with 2 after I buy the new lower that comes with it)
The stock carbine buffer will be fine, The rifle will run smoother (less recoil, bolt bounce) with a H buffer. I would run the carbine buffer for now until you get or build your lower.
Yes VERY informative and awesome members here … shown by all the threads I have created over the last couple days and given TONS of killer info … and Very Fast replies by many members (I don;t get that elsewhere)
AND of course this absolutely amazing offer from Zane … Wow … very humbled by the offer brother, can;t thank you enough for putting that thought at ease foe me
I am gonna hit the range with the new upper AND this H buffer now feeling much more comfortable in their not being any cycling issues.
When I bought my BCM upper, the only lower I had was a Rock River. Now I had read enough here to start wondering if I needed to get a better lower from one of the ‘good’ companies (BCM, DD, Colt, etc.). I have learned over the past 2-3k rounds that it seems to work fine, and as long as you have an in spec lower made from the proper material (ie. no polymer), it will usually work with no problems. Put it together and give it a try, I don’t think you’ll have any issues.
