New AR Search Help

I apologize if this has been a discussed topic, I tried the search function without too much success.

Looking to get into a new AR soon, more of a tactical, go anywhere, shoot anything type of weapon. I’m looking for a 14.5 barrel, pinned to the magic 16", a mid length gas system(I’m thinking gas impingement over a gas piston), a flat top receiver, and a quad railed hand guard.

I’ve researched options from LMT, LWRCI, Daniel Defense, Yankee Hill Machine, and Noveske. All appear to be rated very highly. I’m leaning towards the Noveske at the moment, since it comes with a lot of nice features over some of the others, like good flip up BUIS, nice rear grip, the Gunfighter charging handle, and super accurate barrels.

I’d like some opinions here and/or recommendations. Thank you all for the help.

what’s your price range?

I don’t think you can really go wrong with any of those brands. It’s hard to argue with Noveske.

That’s my only issue is the price on the Noveske options.

I could get a Daniel Defense M4V5LW for about $1300, swap out a few small parts like the grips, add iron sights and even an optic and come in around the price of the Noveske.

My question is would I be selling myself short doing so? I’d rather wait a little longer to set the money aside for the more expensive options than kick myself later because I bought something that wasn’t up to par.

I was in the same boat and this is what I ended up with:

The only thing that I may change out is the stock in favor of a Magpul STR, other than that this rifle is complete.

i don’t think you would be selling yourself short. BUT…having been in similar situations, I highly recommend getting what you want. i say cry once and be 100% satisfied instead of wondering “what if…?”.

$0.02

I like that Rainier Arms offering as well, thanks for giving me another option to consider.

How do you like the Rainer weapon?

Nice short list. If you’re looking for a mid length priced below the Noveske, then DD and BCM should have a configuration that meets your needs. Flip up irons, rails, etc. add to the cost of a base upper so just take that into consideration when comparing different products.

No. Gun would be a touch heavier as barrel is 1.5" longer and slightly longer rail. But you do get an inch or so of extra rail and your flash hider isn’t pinned. I’d have more fun with a $1500 gun and $500 optic than a $2000 gun, but a $2000 gun and $500 optic would also be fun.

Thank you all for the help. I’ll be sure to post pics when I’ve made a decision.

Any of the brands you mentioned will be quality choices. Remember you get what you pay for but that doesn’t mean you have to spend $2k to get a quality rifle.

Having said that there are hundreds of threads similar to this just by reading through some of the pages. Also make sure you are using the orange search button.

Good luck with your purchase.

For a 1st AR, I generally recommend against a perm FH as necessitiated by 14.5 barrels without SBR stamps. While I can tell the difference between a 14.5 and a 16, it isn’t nearly as much as I can feel the butt-hurt when any work needs to be done on the upper.

If you are going to ignore that advice (seems to be a trend lately), take a look at the link I provided above. As far as middies go, BCM and Daniel Defense are very caipable and well built.
