I recently got my hands on a couple of prototype single point sling mounts made by Joe Elledge at http://www.echo93.com/.
Joe is a former LEO and current BW contractor. In addition, he is also a great instructor and a hell of a gunsmith. I’ve rarely met many dudes who have the knowledge he does when it comes to shooting, technique, and guns in general.
He is headed back to AFG soon so I thought I would post this to get him a little heat for his new idea.
Here is the V1 mount:
Here is the V2 mount:
Both are ambi, but it should be noted that the V1 mount is true universal ambi while the V2 requires the user to install one way or the other. Installation is a snap, pull the grip screw/grip, place the plate in position, replace the grip/grip screw.
Construction is sturdy, and after installation the mounting plate feels firm with no play on my rifle.
So far I am digging the V2, as it seems to hang a bit better for me.
I am looking forward to hitting the range to see how this works. So far I can’t see any reason why it won’t work as advertised.
Interesting idea, except it wouldn’t work as well on folders.
The PG plate on them might cause stack issues. But I like the idea of V1, same idea as the loop of paracord around the grip screw - but more “finalized”
Here is my ghetto single point sling mount. Just cut a notch out with a drill bit or dremmel tool and shoot a loop of 550 cord. Works great and didn’t cost anything but some time. This might work well with your folder 96SS?
I believe that this is in keeping with the simplicity of the AK design. Nice idea. I wonder how Blue Force Gear’s Universal Wire Loop or some stainless steel aircraft cable would fare in that role. Time to go screw around on the workbench.
FWIW, I have a Blue Force Gear Vickers Sling on mine that I got from Grant at G&R. It’s got a Mash Hook up front and a long QD Universal Loop at the rear.
